Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for an Intermediate Care/Stepdown Unit position requiring telemetry and cardiac monitoring skills with an active IL RN license.

Details

• Work in the IMC/Stepdown (PCU/DOU) unit of a Level I trauma, Magnet-designated acute care hospital
• Cardiac telemetry, neuro stepdown, and cardiovascular patient population
• Day shift schedule, 4x12 hours (0645-1915)
• Every other weekend required
• No on-call responsibilities
• Floating required within the hospital or to nearby affiliate facilities
• Uses Cerner EMR (experience preferred)

Requirements

• Active IL RN license required and in hand at time of consideration
• Current BLS and NIHSS certifications required; ACLS preferred
• Minimum 1 year of recent IMC/Stepdown, PCU, or telemetry experience required
• Prior travel nursing experience required
• Teaching hospital and Level I trauma experience preferred
• Experience with cardiac monitoring including interpretation and management of dysrhythmias and use of rapid response teams
• Cardiovascular skills including post cardiac angiogram, pre/post cardiac cath, pre/post cardiac surgery, sheath removal, and TR band care
• IV therapy and phlebotomy skills including central line, PICC line, arterial line, and blood product administration
• Respiratory skills including ventilator care, chest tube management, BiPAP/CPAP, HFNC, and tracheostomy care
• Experience managing cardiac and vasoactive drips, heparin protocols, and PCA
• Neurological case experience including craniotomy, CVA, spinal cord injury, and traumatic brain injury
• Orthopedic case experience including ortho trauma and total joint replacement
• Experience with feeding tube management, hemodialysis management, wound care/wound vac, and isolation precautions

Additional Information

• Provide comprehensive stepdown-level nursing care across cardiac, neuro, respiratory, and orthopedic patient populations
• Any solid color scrubs permitted
• Free parking permit provided, arranged during orientation
• First day of assignment is a virtual, at-home orientation requiring completion of assigned modules
• Must work 2 of the 3 major holidays
• RTO ideally limited to 5 days or fewer
• Local candidates accepted with no radius restriction
• Previous permanent or PRN employees of the facility must be separated for at least 12 months before returning as a traveler
• Travel pairs are not accepted
• First-time travelers are not accepted for this role
