Description

American Traveler is hiring a Registered Nurse for a Progressive Care Unit (PCU) night shift position requiring compact or IA licensure and neuro/ortho trauma experience.

Details

• Surg/Neuro/Ortho unit within a 25-bed PCU setting
• Patient population includes heavy neuro trauma, neurosurgery, craniectomy, and orthopedic cases
• RN to patient ratio of 1:5 to 1:6
• Uses Epic EMR
• Night shift, 4x12s, 48 hrs/week (36 hrs/week available upon request)
• Weekend rotation every other or every third weekend depending on staffing/census
• No on-call requirements
• Required to float across Iowa Methodist MC, Iowa Lutheran, and Meth West campuses
• Utilizes telemetry, chest tubes, airvo, and left equipment
• Manages Heparin, PCA, and 3% Sodium/Na drips (no titration)

Requirements

• Active IA or compact/multistate RN license required
• Current BLS and ACLS (AHA or ARC) certifications required
• NIHSS certification preferred, can be obtained during onboarding
• Minimum 24 months of Medical Surgical, IMCU, Stepdown, or Progressive Care experience in a hospital setting required
• Neurology/neurosurgery care experience required
• Ortho/orthopedic care experience required
• Trauma care experience highly preferred, Trauma Level I experience highly preferred
• EPIC EMR experience required
• EKG/strip reading, measuring, and telemetry experience required
• Experience with Heparin, PCA, and 3% Sodium/Na drips required
• De-escalation certification (CPI, MOAB, MAB, or SAMA) preferred
• Must have completed at least one travel assignment within the previous 12 months
• Driver's license required for consideration
• Professional reference from a supervisor within the past 24 months preferred

Additional Information

• Provide progressive care nursing support for neuro, neurosurgery, and orthopedic trauma patients
• Navy blue scrubs required
• Holiday rotation required, must work 1-2 of 3 upcoming winter holidays unless the unit is closed
• Must reside at least 50 miles from the facility
• Prior UnityPoint Health employees (FTE or PRN in the float pool) are ineligible to work travel assignments in another market within 12 months of separation
• First-time travelers will not be considered for this role
