Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Level III Trauma Emergency Department position on night shift, requiring a TX or compact RN license and ACLS, BLS, PALS, TNCC, and NIHSS certifications.

Details

• Level III Trauma, STEMI and Stroke Receiving Emergency Department in an acute care hospital setting
• 18 beds/trauma bays including 4 critical rooms used for trauma or codes, plus a 6-bed Fast Track area
• Separate triage area where travelers are allowed to staff
• ER holds are intermixed within the unit and cared for by ER nurses
• One separate psych/seclusion room, with in-house security rounding in the ER 24/7
• Treats approximately 70 patients per day
• Nurse to patient ratio of 1:3-4 depending on acuity
• Common diagnoses include pediatrics, cardiac, STEMIs, strokes, some trauma, abdominal pain, respiratory, and GI cases
• Facility is the only pediatric-admitting hospital in the area, though critical peds cases are transferred out
• Multisystem trauma cases are transferred to another facility
• Manages all common ER drips including pressors and sedation
• MD in house 24/7 with 2 midlevels staggered during busy times
• Charge nurse is generally patient-free
• 2 PCTs per shift, who may occasionally be pulled for sitter duties
• RT in the ER 24/7 performing ABGs, breathing treatments, and running vents; RNs perform EKGs and troubleshoot RT equipment (nasal cannula to vents)
• No monitor techs in the ER; RNs are required to read and interpret their own telemetry strips
• X-Ray and CT located near the ER with assistance for transport
• Phlebotomy team draws labs
• Uses MEDITECH EMR
• 12-hour night shifts, with day and night shift starting at 6:45 and mid-shifts starting at 9, 11, 1, and 3
• Every other weekend required
• Holiday coverage worked in with permanent staff rotation
• No call or standby requirement
• Travelers are typically not required to float, but would be first to float if needed

Requirements

• Active TX or compact RN license required, active at time of consideration (pending licenses not accepted)
• Minimum 2 years of ER experience required
• Required certifications: ACLS, BLS, PALS, TNCC, and NIHSS, all active at time of consideration
• Must pass the Advanced Dysrhythmia exam (83%) prior to signing contract, with up to three attempts allowed
• Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months worked, and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years worked, including dates of employment and rehire eligibility
• Copy of driver's license required to validate legal name matches submitted profile

Additional Information

• Provide direct patient care in a busy Level III trauma ER, including EKG interpretation and RT equipment troubleshooting
• May be asked to precept as needed by the unit
• 1-3 shifts of unit-specific orientation depending on experience, with a checkoff packet reviewed alongside a preceptor
• Not responsible for setting up psych patient placement; a screening team handles inpatient placement criteria
• Facility likes travelers who are willing to extend their assignment
• Scrub color is navy, including undershirts; navy scrub jackets are optional
• Call-outs are strongly discouraged and could result in termination
• First-time travelers are welcome to apply
• Candidates may not have been directly employed (full time, part time, or PRN) by any CommonSpirit-affiliated facility, including CHI and/or Dignity, within the past year; PRN employment through outside staffing firms will be considered
