Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Tele night shift position at a Trauma Level 4 acute care facility requiring MI licensure and 1 year of MS/Tele experience.

Details

• 24-bed inpatient Med/Surg Tele unit with up to 10 observation/day surgeries
• Nurse-to-patient ratios of 5:1 on day shift and 6:1 at 11pm, using team nursing with LPNs at 2:7 ratios
• Common diagnoses include NHP, cellulitis, UTI, COPD, GU disorders, pacemakers, sepsis, and nursing home placements
• Day surgical caseload includes ortho (hips and knees), choles, appys, and TURPs-CBI
• Small pediatric population (approximately 3/year), typically not assigned to travelers without prior experience
• Uses Cerner EMR, currently transitioning to Epic
• 12-hour night shifts (1900-0700)
• Weekend rotation required (EOW, Friday, Saturday, Sunday)
• Holiday coverage required for 2 of 3 major holidays
• On-call/standby opportunity available
• Floating required to like units and patient populations
• Charge nurse carries an assignment; travelers may be placed in relief charge role
• Hospitalist/intensivist coverage in-house until 6pm daily, telemedicine thereafter
• Respiratory therapy available 24/7 with CPAP equipment
• No IV team onsite; RNs must be comfortable performing IV starts
• No drip titration required for RNs

Requirements

• Active MI RN license required by start date
• BLS (AHA) certification required; ACLS preferred
• Minimum 1 year of Med/Surg or Med/Surg-Tele acute care experience required
• Experience or knowledge of TURPs-CBI preferred
• Critical Access or Trauma Level 3/4 experience preferred
• Basic tele arrhythmia knowledge required
• Must be comfortable performing IV starts independently
• 2 professional references required: 1 from a supervisor and 1 from a peer or supervisor

Additional Information

• Unit-specific orientation includes an 8-hour computer education day 1 with shadowing, a 12-hour shift of orientation on day 2, and independent work by day 3
• Solid, professional-colored scrubs required (no specific color mandated)
• All clinicians must clock in and out at the facility
• Candidates residing within 80 miles of the facility are considered local, with a reduced travel pay rate
• Former permanent staff must have an end date at least 6 months prior to consideration and require facility approval before reapplying
• First-time travelers may be considered based on unit needs
