Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Neuro Stepdown & EMU night shift position requiring NIHSS certification and strong neuro nursing background.

Details

• Work in the acute care Neuro Stepdown & Epilepsy Monitoring Unit (EMU) of a hospital
• 31 total beds: 25 Stepdown and 6 EMU
• Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:3 for Stepdown and 1:5-6 for EMU floor
• Patient population includes higher acuity neuroscience patients: EVDs, strokes, seizures, craniotomies, and post-TPA cases
• Telemetry monitoring present on unit though RNs are not required to read strips
• RT available 24/7 for floor vent management; vent experience not required for RNs
• Titration performed only per physician orders in this stepdown setting
• Charge Nurse coverage 24/7 with 4 nurse aides per shift at 1:8-9 ratio
• EPIC EMR experience required
• Schedule is 3x12hr night shifts (7p-7:30a) with possible 3 shifts in a row
• Weekend requirement of every other weekend or 2 weekend shifts per schedule
• Floating possible to units 7E, 7W, 7NE, or 10W

Requirements

• Active WV or compact RN license required
• BLS and NIHSS certification required, ACLS preferred
• Minimum 2 years of experience required
• Strong overall neuroscience nursing experience required
• History of caring for stroke patients and implementing NIH stroke scale required
• NIHSS certification must be in hand at time of consideration
• EPIC EMR experience required
• COVID vaccination required (2 shots of Moderna/Pfizer or 1 shot of J&J), with medical or religious exemption process available

Additional Information

• Provide direct nursing care to higher acuity neuroscience stepdown and EMU patients
• Manage common titratable drips including Amiodarone, Cardizem, Nitro, dopamine, Nipride, Ketamine, Lasix, Bumex, and Insulin per physician orders
• Unit-specific orientation consists of 2 shifts on the unit
• Holiday coverage required as part of the rotation
• Scrub color requirement is royal blue
• Must reside outside a 50-mile radius from the facility
• Candidates who previously worked at any WVU Medicine location must have taken a 2-year break before reapplying
• Travelers cannot work within the WVU system for longer than a cumulative year without taking a 2-year break
• Candidates can only be submitted to one WVU facility at a time
