Description
American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Pediatric ICU position requiring a minimum of 2 years PICU experience and PALS certification.
Details
- Acute care setting in an 8-bed PICU with an average census of 2 patients
- Patient ratio of 1 to 2
- Night shift, 12-hour shifts (7p-7a), with every other weekend required
- Uses Cerner EMR
- Spacelab telemetry monitors used; nurses must read their own strips
- Ventilator, CPAP, BiPAP, and HFNC support available with 24/7 respiratory therapy coverage
- In-house pediatric hospitalist/intensivist coverage available 24/7
- Rarely staffed with a charge nurse; no nurse aides or IV team support
- May be placed on standby for low census days when scheduled
- Travelers are first to float, including to General Peds and Burn unit (for non-burn pediatric care) and voluntary NICU coverage
- Unit-specific orientation includes 2 shifts in PICU, 1 shift in Peds, and 1 shift in Burn (for pediatric patients)
- Common diagnoses include respiratory failure, dehydration, seizures, DKA, suicide attempts, overdose, and poisoning
- Manages titratable drips including insulin, sedatives, heparin, and occasionally vasopressors and electrolyte replacements
- Uses Medfusion pumps
Requirements
- Active CA RN license required
- BLS and PALS certifications required
- Minimum 2 years of PICU experience required
- Cerner EMR experience preferred
- Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months worked and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years worked, including dates of employment and rehire eligibility
- Copy of driver's license required for consideration
Additional Information
- Provide direct patient care to critically ill pediatric patients including those requiring ventilator support and continuous drip management
- Navy blue scrubs required
- Holiday coverage required for 2 out of 3 major holidays
- First-time travelers will not be considered for this position
- Candidates who have been directly employed (full time, part time, or PRN) by any CommonSpirit-affiliated facility, including CHI and Dignity, within the past year will not be considered
