Description

American Traveler is seeking a Telemetry RN with a CA license and at least 2 years of experience for a fast-paced acute care unit with cardiac and stroke patients.

Details

  • Acute care Telemetry unit (Tele 3SW) with 32 all-private beds
  • Patient ratios of 1:4 for telemetry patients and 1:5 for Med-Surg patients (mixed teams maintain 1:4 ratio)
  • Patient population includes acute/chronic medical conditions, cardiac telemetry, stroke, non-titratable drips, COVID, forensic, and potential post-op patients
  • Uses GE cardiac monitors; RNs must read and interpret all cardiac rhythms
  • No drip titration required; set rate drips include Cardizem, Amiodarone, and Heparin
  • CPAP/BiPAP support per RT or MD order; no ventilator management
  • Cerner EMR experience preferred
  • 12-hour day shifts (7a-730p) with shift huddles at 0700 and 1900
  • Every other weekend required (Sat/Sun for day shifts)
  • Minimum of 1 major and 1 minor holiday coverage required
  • No call requirement, but may be placed on standby for low census with a 30-minute call-in response time
  • Travelers are first to float, potentially to Mercy Downtown (~6.5 miles away), any MS/MST unit, ICU for MST patients, or ER for MST holds

Requirements

  • Active CA RN license required
  • Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications (AHA or APEX) required
  • Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
  • Must pass the Relias Dysrhythmia exam (basic or advanced) prior to offer confirmation
  • Must pass a sterile technique test for Foley catheter insertion and central line dressing changes on first day of orientation
  • Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, including employment dates and rehire eligibility
  • Copy of driver's license required for consideration

Additional Information

  • Responsibilities include bedside shift report, intentional hourly rounding, and medication teaching including side effects
  • Support structure includes 24/7 house supervisor, nurse manager during business hours, and charge/break nurses each shift
  • CNA support provided based on census
  • 1-2 shifts of unit-specific orientation with a preceptor
  • Navy blue scrub color required; undershirts must be navy, white, or black and scrub jackets must be navy; no hoodies or sweatshirts allowed
  • Fast-paced unit with high patient acuity and frequent admissions
  • Strict attendance policy; punctuality is required
  • Candidates may not have been directly employed by any CommonSpirit-affiliated facility, including CHI and Dignity, within the past year (PRN employment through outside firms is acceptable)
  • Two attempts allowed for Relias and sterile technique tests; failure of both results in a 6-month do-not-use status with CommonSpirit Sacramento region and Arizona facilities
