Description

American Traveler is hiring a Progressive Care Unit RN for a night shift assignment requiring compact IA license and prior stepdown or med-surg experience.

Details

• Progressive Care Unit (Neuro/Ortho/Trauma/Stroke) within a hospital setting
• Patient population includes post-TNK, ortho, crani-neurosurgery, laminectomy, and polytrauma cases
• Patient ratios of 1:5-6 on a 25-bed unit
• Night shift, 4x12 hour shifts (3x12 accommodated), 48 hrs/week
• No on-call requirements
• Weekend rotation usually every other or every third weekend, including holidays
• Required to float across other med-surg units and across Iowa Methodist MC, Iowa Lutheran, and Iowa Methodist campuses
• Uses lift equipment, telemetry, chest tubes, and AIRVO
• Administers heparin drips, PCAs, and 3% sodium (preferred)
• EMR: Epic

Requirements

• Active IA RN license or compact/multistate license required
• BLS certification (AHA or ARC) required
• NIHSS certification required (can be obtained during onboarding)
• De-escalation certificate may be required
• ACLS certification preferred
• 24 months of Stepdown, Progressive Care, or Medical-Surgical experience in a hospital setting required
• Neuro/neurology care experience required
• Ortho/orthopedic care experience required
• Trauma care experience highly preferred
• Epic EMR experience required
• Experience with lift equipment, telemetry, chest tubes, and AIRVO required
• Experience administering heparin and PCAs required
• Experience administering 3% sodium preferred
• Must have completed at least one prior travel contract within the past 12 months
• Valid driver's license required for consideration
• Professional reference from a supervisor, charge nurse, nurse manager, director, CNO, or COO within the past 24 months preferred

Additional Information

• Care for neuro, ortho, trauma, and stroke patients on a progressive care unit
• Holiday coverage required for 1-2 of 3 upcoming winter holidays unless the unit is closed
• First-time travelers are not eligible for this position
• Prior UnityPoint Health employees (FTE or PRN float pool) are ineligible for travel assignments at any UPH market facility within the past 12 months
• Candidates must reside at least 50 miles from the facility based on driver's license address
• Local candidates are not accepted for this position
