Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced ER RN for a Level 1 Trauma Center on nights, requiring at least 6 months of Level 1 trauma experience and an AZ or compact RN license.

Details

• Emergency Department at a Level 1 Trauma Center
• Acute unit with 36 beds and Subacute unit with 54 beds; trauma bays are staffed by core staff only
• 1:4 nurse-to-patient ratio
• Cerner EMR
• 12-hour night shifts, 36 hours per week
• 4 weekend shifts required per 4-week period (Saturday/Sunday)
• Holiday coverage based on unit needs
• Floating required between St. Joseph's Main, St. Joseph's Westgate, AZ General Laveen, and two Free Standing ERs in Litchfield Park and Glendale (approximately 30 minutes apart), including mid-shift floats
• Charge RNs available with light or task-based patient loads
• 4 PCTs on unit for sitter support
• RT and Pharmacy available 24/7, with a dedicated ER pharmacist for 10 hours per day
• Telemetry monitoring via Philips monitors, requiring strip-reading ability
• Vents managed by Respiratory Therapy
• IV Team available with ultrasound-trained core RNs
• High-acuity patient population including trauma, burns, psychiatric holds, spinal cord and TBI cases, with pediatric patients transferred out
• Approximately 88,000 patients annually, averaging 250-300 patients per day

Requirements

• Active AZ or Compact RN license required
• BLS, ACLS, and PALS certifications required (ENPC does not substitute for PALS)
• TNCC and ATCN certifications preferred
• Minimum 2 years of ER experience required
• At least 6 months of Level 1 Trauma experience required
• Cerner EMR experience preferred
• Must pass a Dysrhythmia (DYS) exam prior to accepting an offer, with up to 2 attempts allowed
• Must pass a sterile technique exam for Foley catheter insertion and central line dressing changes on day 1 of orientation
• Driver's license required for submission and used to verify permanent address
• Must maintain natural hair color and no facial piercings; men must be clean shaven for respirator fit testing

Additional Information

• Provide emergency and trauma nursing care in a high-volume, high-acuity Level 1 Trauma Center
• Participate in floor-specific orientation consisting of 2-3 shifts
• Complete SIMs Lab competency for Foley catheter insertion and port-a-cath insertion (specific to ED)
• Additional educational sessions provided for lifts, restraints, and wound care due to facility-specific equipment and policies
• Scrub color required: Navy
• Must reside within a 50-mile radius of the facility, based on driver's license address
• Travelers must have their own vehicle for transportation between float sites
• Failure of the DYS exam or sterile technique exam after 2 attempts results in Do Not Use status for 6 months across CommonSpirit Arizona and Sacramento regions
• Candidates may not have been directly employed by any CommonSpirit-affiliated facility (including CHI and Dignity Health) within the past year; PRN employment through outside firms is acceptable
