Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Med/Surg night shift position requiring recent charge experience and a TX or compact RN license.

Details

• Med/Surg unit (Tower 3), a 37-bed primary surgical, ortho, and trauma floor
• Patient population includes elective surgeries, total joints, bariatric procedures, general and trauma cases, CCU, non-symptomatic COVID, hospice/palliative, and higher-acuity self-injury cases
• Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:5
• No monitored beds on the unit and RNs are not required to titrate drips or read telemetry strips
• 12-hour night shifts with an every-other-weekend requirement
• Holiday coverage rotates in with core staff
• No call or standby requirement
• Charge nurse holds ACLS and may take up to 2 patients if needed for staffing
• 3 nursing aides on days and 2 on nights
• Uses MEDITECH EMR
• Self-scheduling allowed, with schedules built 6 weeks at a time and finalized by management
• First to float between the Bryan and College Station campuses, about 16 minutes apart
• Floating may include helping-hands/tech-level assignments within RN scope, or modified assignments if floated outside Med/Surg

Requirements

• Active TX or compact RN license required, active at time of consideration (pending licenses not accepted)
• BLS (AHA) and NIHSS certifications required, active and current
• Minimum 1 year of RN experience required (2 years preferred)
• First-time travelers considered only with 5+ years of Med/Surg experience
• Recent charge nurse experience within the past year required
• Driver's license copy required for consideration

Additional Information

• Provide direct patient care on a busy surgical, ortho, and trauma Med/Surg unit
• May be asked to precept as needed by the unit
• Unit orientation includes classwork covering skills, policies, procedures, and MEDITECH training, followed by 2-3 shifts on the floor
• Night shift hires will be oriented with one day shift and one night shift
• Navy scrub color required, including undershirts; navy scrub jackets optional
• Call-outs are strongly discouraged and may lead to termination
• Candidates may not have been directly employed (full time, part time, or PRN) by any CommonSpirit-affiliated facility, including CHI or Dignity, within the past year; PRN employment through outside staffing firms will be considered
• Start dates are available any Monday
