Description

American Traveler is hiring a Med/Surg RN for a float pool position at a Level II Trauma Center, requiring at least 18 months of MedSurg/ICU experience and an active AL or compact RN license.

Details

• Staff Float Pool MedSurg position within a 492-bed Level II Trauma Center, Level III NICU, and Primary Stroke Center
• Assigned a home unit on first day of orientation, which may include Trauma Surgical, Neuroscience, MedSurg/Oncology, Clinical Decision Unit, Orthopedics, or MS/Ortho/Urology units
• Patient ratios range from 1:5 to 1:6 depending on unit
• 12-hour day shifts (7a-7p) or night shifts (7p-7a), 36/48 schedule
• Weekend rotation required (every other weekend or 4 weekend days per month)
• No on-call requirements
• Floating required to like units (MS-MS, MS-ICU task, MS-ER/MS holds, ICU-ICU, ICU-MS task, ICU-ER/ICU holds)
• Cerner EMR preferred; IV pumps are Plum 360, medication dispensing via Omnicell, monitors by Spacelabs
• Telemetry monitored by techs, but RNs required to interpret and confirm strip readings every 4 hours
• 4-week self-scheduling cycle utilizing Smart Square

Requirements

• Active RN license (Alabama or Compact) required
• BLS and NIHSS certifications required
• Minimum of 18 months of MedSurg and/or ICU experience
• Cerner or Epic EMR experience required; Cerner required if experience is strictly ICU
• Unit-specific skills may include wound care, chest tubes, NGT, IV starts, trach care, PEG, ostomy/colostomy care, central line care, and PCA pump management depending on assigned unit
• Chemo administration certification preferred for Oncology assignments

Additional Information

• Support staff on units includes CNAs, charge nurses, phlebotomy, IV/VAT team, hospitalists, and telemetry monitoring techs
• New-to-facility travelers or return travelers gone 1+ years receive 24 hours of classroom orientation and 24 hours on-unit
• Former staff must wait 6 months from last shift worked before returning as a traveler
• One major and one minor seasonal holiday coverage expected per policy, though specific scheduling is not guaranteed prior to arrival
• Scrubs of any color permitted
• Parking available in designated deck levels 2-4
• First-time travelers are welcome to apply
• Must reside outside a 60-mile radius of the facility to be eligible; local candidates not accepted
