Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced Emergency Department RN for a night shift position at a Level I trauma teaching hospital, requiring Level II trauma experience and TNCC certification.

Details

• Emergency Department at a Level I trauma, teaching, and children's hospital with 554 staffed beds
• Night shift, 4x12 hours (19:00-7:30)
• Approximately 60-80% of ED patients are admitted, with many rooms functioning as ED Holding
• Patient ratio of 1:5
• 36 or 48 hour shifts available; 48-hour shifts limited to travelers with both Level I trauma and travel experience
• Weekend scheduling as needed, with weekend days defined as Saturday/Sunday and weekend nights as Friday/Saturday/Sunday
• No on-call requirements
• Floating to Peds ED optional; floating to Adult PCUs expected based on staffing needs, with potential floating to ED Holding and Trauma
• Uses Cerner charting system
• Increased number of admit holds currently being seen

Requirements

• Active RN license (NM or Compact) required, may pend at time of submission
• BLS, ACLS, PALS, and TNCC certifications required prior to signing; NIHSS may pend until compliance due date
• RQI certifications not accepted
• Minimum 2 years of ED experience required (will consider 1.5 years)
• Level II trauma experience required; Level I trauma experience strongly preferred
• Travel experience strongly preferred; first-time travelers with 2+ years Level I trauma experience may be considered
• Teaching hospital experience preferred
• Cerner charting experience preferred
• Skills in IV therapy, phlebotomy, arterial line management, blood product administration, and central line care preferred
• Experience with ventilated patients, continuous IV sedation, and IV vasopressors preferred
• Experience with trauma cases including CVA, neuro-trauma, spinal cord injury, traumatic brain injury, gunshot wounds, and traumatic amputation preferred
• Cardiac monitoring skills including interpretation and management of dysrhythmias required
• Triage and isolation precautions/PPE skills required
• Non-local candidates only; must provide non-local driver's license on file

Additional Information

• Responsibilities include medication administration via the seven medication rights, IV medication administration, and documenting/communicating clinical findings
• Previous charge nurse experience preferred
• No RTO permitted during Christmas this season
• Must work 2 out of 3 holiday bundles: Thanksgiving & the day after, Christmas Eve & Christmas Day, or New Year's Eve & New Year's Day
• RTO requests greater than 7 days require approval, with a maximum of 7 days and 1 holiday preferred
• No RTO permitted during the first 7 days or last day of the contract
• COVID vaccine is optional but proof of vaccination or declination must be submitted for facility reporting purposes
• Scrub color is black; scrubs not provided by facility
• No fee for parking
• No local candidates accepted within 100 miles of the facility
• Former staff must have 12 months of separation before returning
• 6-month system break required after 1 year or 4 consecutive assignments, whichever comes first
