Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for an Emergency Department position requiring EPIC experience for an upcoming system conversion.

Details

• Level III trauma center that is a STEMI and Stroke receiving facility
• 18-bed ER including 4 critical rooms used for trauma or codes, plus a 6-bed Fast Track area
• Acute care setting treating pediatrics, cardiac, STEMI, stroke, and general ER cases such as abdominal pain, respiratory, and GI complaints
• Nurse to patient ratio of 1:3-4 depending on acuity
• Averages 70 patients per day
• Separate triage area where travelers are allowed to staff
• ER holds are intermixed with regular ER patients and cared for by ER nurses
• One separate Psych/seclusion room available
• 24/7 in-house security that rounds in the ER
• MD in house 24/7 with 2 midlevels staggered during busy times
• Charge nurse is generally patient-free
• 2 PCTs per shift, who may occasionally be pulled to assist as a sitter
• RT covers ABGs, breathing treatments, and vent management; RNs troubleshoot equipment and perform EKGs
• No monitor techs on the unit; RNs are required to read and interpret their own strips
• X-Ray and CT located near the ER with transport assistance provided
• Phlebotomy team draws labs in the ER
• Uses MEDITECH charting system, transitioning to EPIC
• 12-hour day shifts starting at 6:45, with mid-shifts starting at 9, 11, 1, and 3
• Every other weekend required
• Holiday coverage worked into rotation with permanent staff
• No call or standby requirements
• Travelers are typically first to float if floating is needed
• Navy scrub color required with navy undershirts; scrub jackets optional but must be navy

Requirements

• Active TX RN license or compact license required
• Minimum 2 years of ER experience required
• Required certifications: ACLS, BLS, NIHSS, PALS, and TNCC (AHA-issued where applicable)
• EPIC EMR experience required due to upcoming system conversion
• Must pass the Advanced Dysrhythmia exam (83%) prior to signing contract, with up to three attempts allowed
• Copy of driver's license required at time of consideration to confirm legal name matches government-issued ID
• Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months worked and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years worked, including employment dates and rehire eligibility

Additional Information

• Provide direct patient care in a busy, high-acuity Emergency Department
• May be asked to precept as needed by the unit
• Travelers are not responsible for setting up placement for psych patients; a dedicated team screens and arranges inpatient placement
• 1-3 shifts of unit-specific orientation depending on experience, including a checkoff packet reviewed with a preceptor
• Facility prefers travelers who are open to extending their assignment
• Call-outs are strongly discouraged and could result in termination
• Candidates may not have been directly employed (full time, part time, or PRN) by any CommonSpirit-affiliated facility, including CHI or Dignity, within the past year; PRN employment through outside staffing firms will be considered
