Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced Emergency Department RN for a 13-week acute care assignment requiring 2+ years of ED experience and multiple specialty certifications.

Details

• Level ER setting with 33 total beds (25 adult, 8 pediatric) and 2 trauma bays (1 adult, 1 pediatric)
• Separate triage area with 2 bays; travelers are not typically assigned as Triage Nurse
• ER holds for admission are intermixed with ED patients and managed by ED nurses
• No separate psych/seclusion rooms, but in-house security is available
• Typical volume of 70-85 patients per day (60-70 adults, 10-20 pediatrics)
• 1 RN to 4 patient ratio
• Common diagnoses include abdominal pain, N/V/D, chest pain, sepsis, CVA rule-out, and fall-related trauma
• Department staffed with 1 MD/DO and 1-3 midlevel providers at all times
• Charge Nurse and House Supervisor support available
• 1 ED Tech (CNA) staffed from 7am-3am
• Uses Epic EMR
• Full ventilator, CPAP, BiPAP, and heated high-flow capability; Respiratory Therapy completes ABGs and breathing treatments while ED RNs and Techs complete EKGs
• All rooms capable of cardiac monitoring, visible at the nurses station; no dedicated monitor tech
• Radiology located near but not within the ED; transport shared between ED and Radiology staff
• Nurse draws blood for 95% of orders
• Shift options include day (7am-7pm), mid shifts (11-11 and 12-12), and night (7pm-7am), with shifts specifically scheduled 1500-0300
• Weekend requirement of every 3rd weekend
• Floating limited to the pediatric ED only, no floating to inpatient units
• No call or standby requirement
• 36 guaranteed hours per week over 12-hour shifts

Requirements

• Active RN license (State or Compact/NLC) required, pending licenses not accepted
• Minimum 2 years of ED experience required
• Required certifications: ACLS, BLS, NIHSS, PALS, and TNCC (all active, pending not accepted)
• ENPC and NRP certifications considered a bonus
• Epic EMR experience preferred
• Must reside at least 50 miles from the facility, verified via driver's license
• Candidates may not have been directly employed (full time, part time, or PRN) by any CommonSpirit-associated facility, including CHI and/or Dignity, within the past year

Additional Information

• Provide direct patient care in a high-volume Emergency Department treating adult and pediatric patients
• Complete a pass/fail open-book exam on Friday during orientation, requiring a 90% score to continue the assignment
• 1-2 days of unit-specific orientation before functioning independently
• Holiday coverage required for 2 holidays per year (1 winter, 1 summer), with Easter coverage on a separate rotation
• Navy scrub color dress code
• Artificial nails are prohibited in all patient care departments; refusal to remove will result in contract termination
