Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for an Emergency Department position requiring an active MI license and 2 years of ED experience.

Details

• Level IV Trauma Center emergency department with 14 beds and 2 trauma bays
• No stroke or STEMI receiving capability; those patients are transferred out
• Fast Track area with 3 designated rooms and separate triage area with 2 rooms
• Travelers may perform triage duties after orientation to facility policies
• ER holds managed within the department with overflow to attached ACU rooms
• Rooms can be converted to Psych/seclusion rooms as needed
• Treats an average of 40-60 patients per day
• Nurse to patient ratios of 1:3-4 during the day, increasing at night, with only 2 RNs on duty after 3am
• Patient population includes trauma, STEMI, stroke, hunting injuries, MVAs, and farming accidents
• ED Physician in-house 24/7 with mid-level support
• Respiratory Therapy in-house 24/7 performing ABGs, breathing treatments, and EKGs as needed
• Central monitoring station used with no dedicated monitor techs
• On-site X-ray available 24/7; CT located a short distance away
• 24/7 phlebotomy coverage for lab draws
• 12-hour shifts with start times of 7am, 10am, 12pm, and 3pm
• Charge nurse typically takes an assignment
• Every other weekend (Saturday/Sunday) required
• Holiday coverage required, approximately 2 of 3 winter holidays and every other holiday during the contract
• Floating to inpatient units may be required to assist as needed
• No formal on-call requirement; voluntary early release without pay is possible

Requirements

• Active MI RN license required
• Minimum 2 years of Emergency Department experience required
• Required certifications: ACLS, BLS, PALS, and TNCC (all AHA-issued where applicable)
• Acute care setting experience required
• Comfort working in a high-acuity trauma environment

Additional Information

• Provide direct patient care across a wide range of emergency and trauma cases
• Facility charting is done in a computerized system currently transitioning from Cerner to Epic
• Orientation includes computer-based training and 2 days of floor orientation, including facility policies
• Dress code requires any solid-colored scrubs that are clean and professional
• All clinicians must clock in and out at the facility
• First-time travelers and duo assignments are welcome to apply
• Local candidates within 80 miles of the facility are accepted at a reduced rate
• Former employees must have an end date at least 6 months prior to consideration
