Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Level III Trauma Emergency Department, requiring TX or compact RN license and Epic EMR experience for an upcoming Epic conversion.

Details

• Level III Trauma Center with STEMI receiving and Primary Stroke Center capabilities
• 30-bed ER with 2 trauma bays and 24 acute care beds
• Separate fast track (vertical care) and triage area, with traveler placement in triage assessed after time on assignment
• ER holds are intermixed with department, cared for by ED RNs
• Psych/seclusion patients intermixed within the ER, with 24/7 in-house security
• Average of 135 patients treated per day
• Nurse-to-patient ratios vary by acuity: 1:3-4 general acute, 1:1-2 Level I trauma, 1:1 TNK for first hour, 1:6-8 vertical care
• Patient population includes general ER complaints, pediatric (10-15% of volume), geriatric, and high trauma volume including GSW, stabbings, MVAs, and ATV accidents
• Performs chest tubes, rapid transfusions, and cares for intubated patients
• Common drips include Diltiazem, Cardene, Nitro, Propofol, Fentanyl, and Levophed
• EMR systems used: MEDITECH, PulseCheck, and Picis, with Epic experience required for upcoming conversion
• 12-hour mid shifts with varied start times between 1100-1300
• Every other weekend requirement
• Rotate holiday coverage including 1 major holiday
• No call or standby requirements
• May float to help as needed, including to the College Station campus (16 minutes away), without a formal assignment
• Hybrid self-scheduling and block scheduling with traveler input
• RT staffed 24/7 handling ABGs and sharing breathing treatments with RNs
• RNs monitor their own telemetry strips
• X-Ray and CT located in the ER with dedicated transporter
• Phlebotomy staffed 24/7 for lab draws

Requirements

• Active TX or Compact RN license required
• Required certifications: ACLS, BLS, NIHSS, PALS, and TNCC (AHA-issued where applicable)
• Minimum 2-3 years of RN experience required
• Experience in a facility of similar patient volume, trauma level, and size required
• Epic EMR experience required due to upcoming system conversion
• Must pass the Advanced Dysrhythmia exam (83% passing score, up to 3 attempts) before contract signing
• Copy of driver's license required at time of consideration to validate legal name matches government-issued ID
• Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months worked, and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years worked, including employment dates and rehire eligibility

Additional Information

• Provide direct patient care in a high-acuity ER serving 9 counties with a dedicated EMS agency and helicopter transport
• May be asked to precept as needed by the unit
• Free-floating charge nurse role that will take an assignment if needed and responds to codes and rapid responses on floors
• Patient Care Techs support with EKGs, wound care, transport, and trauma case setup
• Dress code requires navy scrubs, with navy undershirts required and optional navy scrub jackets
• Unit-specific orientation consists of 3 shifts in the ER
• Strong team culture with active Shared Governance and Unit-Based Council (UBC) structure
• Call-outs are strongly discouraged and may result in termination
• Candidates may not have been directly employed (full-time, part-time, or PRN) by any CommonSpirit-affiliated facility, including CHI and/or Dignity, within the past year; PRN employment through outside staffing firms will be considered
