Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Level III Trauma Emergency Department requiring TNCC, NIHSS, and Epic EMR experience during an upcoming system conversion.

Details

• Level III Trauma Center and Primary Stroke Center with comprehensive capabilities
• 30-bed ER with 2 trauma bays and 24 acute care beds
• Treats an average of 135 patients daily across general acute, trauma, and pediatric populations (10-15% pediatric)
• Includes a separate Fast Track (Vertical Care) area and a dedicated Triage/First Eyes Nurse role
• Holds are intermixed within the ER; psych/seclusion patients are also cared for within the general ER space
• Nurse-to-patient ratios vary by acuity: 1:3-4 general acute, 1:1-2 Level I trauma, 1:1 TNK for first hour, 1:6-8 Vertical Care
• Cares for trauma patients including GSWs, stabbings, MVAs, ATV accidents, and ground-level falls
• Manages chest tubes, rapid transfusions, and intubated patients
• Common drips include Diltiazem, Cardene, Nitro, Propofol, Fentanyl, and Levophed
• RT staffed 24/7 in the ER handling ABGs and sharing breathing treatments with RNs
• RNs monitor their own telemetry strips
• X-ray and CT located within the ER with dedicated transport staff
• Phlebotomy staffed in the ER 24/7 for lab draws
• 12-hour day shifts with every-other-weekend requirement
• Hybrid self-scheduling and block scheduling model
• Floats between Bryan and College Station campuses (16 minutes apart) as needed, without a separate assignment
• No call or standby requirements
• 3-shift unit-specific orientation
• Uses MEDITECH charting system, transitioning to Epic during assignment

Requirements

• Active TX or Compact RN license required
• Minimum 3 years of ER experience required
• Required certifications: BLS (AHA), ACLS (AHA), PALS (AHA), NIHSS, and TNCC
• Must have prior experience in a facility with similar patient volume, trauma level, and size
• Epic EMR experience required due to upcoming system conversion
• Must pass the Advanced Dysrhythmia exam with an 83% score prior to contract signing (up to three attempts allowed)
• Copy of driver's license required at time of consideration to confirm legal name matches government-issued ID

Additional Information

• Provide direct patient care across general acute, trauma, and pediatric ER populations
• Participate in trauma response for the region's highest-volume trauma service area, covering 9 counties with dedicated EMS and helicopter transport
• May be asked to precept as needed by the unit
• Rotates for 1 major holiday along with core staff
• Strong shared governance culture with an active Unit-Based Council (UBC)
• Navy scrub color required; scrub jackets optional but must also be navy
• Call-outs are strongly discouraged and may result in termination
• Candidates must not have been directly employed (full-time, part-time, or PRN) by any CommonSpirit-affiliated facility, including CHI or Dignity Health, within the past year
• Candidates previously employed PRN through outside staffing firms will still be considered
