Description

American Traveler is seeking a Med/Surg Tele RN for a Neuro Trauma stepdown unit requiring 2 years of recent MS/PCU/ICU experience and trach/vent skills.

Details

• 28-bed stepdown unit specializing in Neuro Trauma care within an acute care Level 2 trauma facility
• Patient population includes strokes, seizures, Guillain-Barre, Myasthenia Gravis, spinal injuries, thrombectomies, post-TNK/TPA patients, and trauma-related ortho injuries such as hematomas and falls
• Nurse to patient ratios of 1:4-5 during days and 1:5-6 at night depending on acuity
• Nurse aide support present with ratios of 1:9 days and 1:12 nights
• RNs required to titrate drips including Heparin, Nitro, Diltiazem, Amiodarone, 3%, and Insulin
• RT equipment on unit includes Vents, Trachs, CPAP, BiPAP, Vapotherm, and EtCO2 monitoring
• Central telemetry monitoring located off-unit
• Uses Cerner EMR, currently transitioning to Epic
• 12-hour day shifts from 7am-7:30pm
• Self-scheduling model that opens 6 weeks in advance, managed by unit leadership
• Every other Friday, Saturday, and Sunday required for weekend coverage
• Floating required to 6 different sister Med/Surg specialty units including mixed care, cardiac, general, MS ortho, and heme/onc
• No call or standby requirements
• Charge nurse takes a smaller assignment on days and a full team at night

Requirements

• Active WI or compact RN license required
• BLS (AHA) and NIHSS certifications required
• Minimum 2 years of Med/Surg, PCU, or ICU experience required
• Must have experience within the specified setting within the last year
• Drip titration experience required
• Trach and vent experience highly preferred, with willingness to train for candidates open to learning
• Cerner EMR experience is beneficial given the unit's use of this system

Additional Information

• Provide direct patient care to a neuro trauma and trauma ortho population in a stepdown/PCU setting
• Unit orientation includes 1 shift of general orientation and 1 shift with a preceptor
• Holiday coverage typically required for 2 of 3 winter holidays, and otherwise every other holiday
• Any solid color scrubs permitted per dress code
• All clinicians must clock in and out at the facility
• First-time travelers are welcome to apply
• Candidates who previously worked at the facility as permanent staff must have an end date at least 6 months prior to consideration
• Local candidates residing within 80 miles of the facility are eligible for consideration at a reduced pay rate
