Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for an Intermediate Care/Neuro Stepdown Telemetry position requiring 2+ years of experience and NC or compact RN licensure.

Details

• Intermediate Care (IMC) unit specializing in neurological stepdown and medical intermediate patients
• Patient ratio of 1:4 with unit census maxing at 24 patients
• 12-hour night shift schedule, 18:45-07:15, with 36 or 48 hour options available
• No on-call requirements
• Float requirement to other intermediate areas (6a, 5A PCTU, 5C Cardiac Intermediate) and critical care/stepdown units as needed
• Minimum of 3 weekend shifts required every six weeks
• Uses Pyxis, Epic, and SBAR communication systems

Requirements

• Active RN license (NC or Compact) required, pending licensure accepted at submission
• Current certifications: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS
• CPI certification preferred
• 2+ years of recent RN experience required, with neuro experience strongly preferred
• Prior travel experience required
• Epic EMR experience required
• Required skills include telemetry monitoring, dysrhythmia management, IV insulin protocols, CBI, central/peripheral/PICC line management, blood product administration, vasoactive and cardiac drip titration, and LEVO titration
• Neurological/psychiatric skills required including craniotomy, CVA, intracranial bleeds, lumbar drains, post-TPA care, and TBI care
• Respiratory skills required including ventilator care, BiPAP/CPAP, chest tube management, and tracheostomy care
• Wound care/wound vac and isolation precautions/PPE experience required
• CCRN, TNCC, charge nurse, ICP, and conscious sedation experience preferred

Additional Information

• Provide intermediate-level nursing care to a sub-specialized neurological and medical patient population
• Must demonstrate a strong teamwork approach and align with facility behavioral expectations in all patient and staff interactions
• Must strictly adhere to the facility's call-off policy
• EKG testing must be passed prior to start for this specialty
• Unit orientation consists of 32 hours, including an 8-hour computer class and two shifts of unit orientation after hospital orientation
• Scrubs are not provided; navy blue and white combinations are required
• Local candidates within 50 miles are accepted at a lower rate
• Previous Novant Health or New Hanover employees (PERM/PRN/EP) must wait 12 months before reapplying, with disclosure and facility approval required
• Up to 7 days of RTO can be auto-approved (excluding holidays); no RTO permitted during the first week of assignment
• Must work 2 of 3 major holidays
• Travel pairs are allowed if placed on different units with independent transportation
• First-time travelers will not be considered for this position
• Contracts of 16+ weeks accepted, with a hard end date of February 27, 2027 to support holiday coverage
