Description

American Traveler is hiring a Med/Surg/Tele Float RN with previous travel experience for an ED Holding support role in a busy float pool.

Details

• Float pool position supporting the ED Holding unit (EDIP), an inpatient holding area located within the Emergency Department
• Care for adult patients with any medical/surgical diagnosis, including possible PCU-level patients
• Expected to take MS/Tele cases and float to ED and MedSurg areas as needed
• Target ratios of 1:6 for MS/Tele patients or 1:4 for PCU-level patients
• Night shift, 4x12-hour schedule (18:45-07:15), working 36 or 48 hours per week
• Every other weekend required
• Uses cardiac monitors, IV pumps, and other standard monitoring equipment
• Documentation and communication via Epic, Pyxis, and SBAR

Requirements

• Active NC or compact RN license required (pending license accepted at submission)
• Minimum 2 years of recent relevant RN experience required
• Previous travel nursing experience required
• BLS and ACLS certifications required; NIHSS and CPI preferred
• Skills required include dysrhythmia interpretation and management, telemetry monitoring (unit and remote), Rapid Response Team use, colostomy and feeding tube care, renal failure management, blood product administration, peripheral and PICC line care, phlebotomy, heparin and insulin administration, isolation precautions, chest tube management, CPAP/BiPAP, HFNC, ABG interpretation, nasal cannula and oxygen device use, and tracheostomy management
• Preferred skills include NIHSS, IV insulin protocols, pre/post hemodialysis management, port access, central line blood draws, IV starts, CVA care, pre/post neurosurgery, spinal cord injury, TBI, ortho trauma, total joint replacement, and wound care/wound vac
• Epic charting experience preferred
• Must pass EKG testing prior to start

Additional Information

• Provide direct patient care to adult medical/surgical and telemetry patients within the ED Holding unit and float assignments
• Support a mixed unit with high patient acuity and high staff turnover
• All candidates will be interviewed prior to placement
• Unit orientation is 12 hours, with weekly orientation scheduling
• Navy scrubs required
• Must be willing and able to work Storm Team/Hurricane Team duties and report during catastrophic events or mass casualty situations if assigned
• Local candidates accepted at a reduced rate within 50 miles of the facility
• RTO of up to 7 days can be auto-approved if it does not fall on a holiday; no RTO allowed during the first week of assignment
• Must work 2 of 3 major holidays
• Former Novant Health or New Hanover PERM/PRN/EP employees must wait 12 months before reapplying, with facility approval required
• Travel pairs are allowed if placed on different units and disclosed at submission
• First-time travelers are not eligible for this position due to required travel experience
