Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a SICU position requiring strong cardiovascular/CVICU experience and a VA or compact license.

Details

• Work in the SICU of a Level II Trauma Center hospital
• Specialized surgical population including trauma, CV surgery (TAVR, CABG), neurosurgery, and complex surgical patients
• Patient ratios of 1:2-3, adjusted appropriately during required floating based on skill level and acuity
• Night shift schedule, 3x12 hours from 19:00-7:00
• Every other weekend required
• No on-call requirements
• Floating required within scope to non-ICU units with standard ratios ranging from 1:4 to 1:6 depending on unit
• Uses Epic charting system

Requirements

• Active VA or compact RN license required
• Current certifications: ACLS, BLS, NIHSS
• CSC and TNCC certifications preferred
• Minimum 2 years of ICU experience required, with strong cardiovascular/CVICU experience preferred
• Teaching hospital experience required
• Community hospital experience required
• Trauma Level II experience required
• Skills required: IV therapy, arterial line management, blood product administration, central line care/management, PICC line management, care of ventilated patient, interpretation of ABGs, chronic/acute renal failure management, CVVHD/CRRT, continuous IV sedation, titration of cardiac and vasoactive drips, isolation precautions/PPE, cardiac monitoring, interpretation and management of dysrhythmias, management of multisystem organ dysfunction/failure, and IV insulin protocols
• Preferred skills include assisting with chest tube insertion/removal, ventilator management, procedural sedation administration/monitoring, ICP monitoring, Impella, IABP, and Swan Ganz monitoring
• Prismaflex/Prismamax experience needed
• Current Nursys report required for consideration

Additional Information

• Provide critical care nursing to complex surgical, trauma, and cardiovascular patients including TAVR and open heart recovery cases
• Manage patients with diagnoses such as acute ventilator need, COVID+ with high O2 demand, DKA, severe sepsis, unstable GI bleed, and multisystem organ failure
• Navy blue scrubs required
• First-time travelers are welcome to apply
• Local candidates accepted at the same rate with no radius restriction
• RTO granted at manager's discretion; requests exceeding 7 days require an equivalent extension of the assignment
• Up to 8 hours of pre-start training modules required within one week of signing
• Previous employees must have a 1-year separation from the facility before returning
• Travel pairs may be considered but are not guaranteed matching schedules
