Description

American Traveler is hiring a Med/Surg Tele RN for a Neuro Trauma stepdown unit requiring 2 years of recent MS/PCU/ICU experience and drip titration skills.

Details

• Acute care stepdown unit (5N Neuro Trauma) within a Level 2 trauma facility
• 28-bed unit with nurse-to-patient ratios of 1:4-5 on days and 1:5-6 on nights, dependent on acuity
• Patient population includes strokes, seizures, Guillain-Barre, Myasthenia Gravis, spinal injuries, thrombectomies, post-TNK/TPA neuro cases, and trauma ortho injuries
• RT equipment used includes vents, trachs, CPAP, BiPAP, Vapotherm, and EtCO2 monitoring
• Central tele monitoring located off-unit
• Cerner EMR currently in use, transitioning to Epic
• Night shift, 12-hour shifts (7p-730a), self-scheduling opens 6 weeks in advance
• Every other Friday, Saturday, and Sunday required for weekend coverage
• No call or standby requirements
• Floating required to sister med/surg units across 6 specialties including cardiac, general, ortho, and heme/onc
• Charge nurse takes a full team assignment on nights and a smaller assignment on days
• Nurse aide support available at 1:9 ratio on days and 1:12 on nights

Requirements

• Active WI or compact RN license required
• Current BLS (AHA) and NIHSS certifications required
• Minimum 2 years of recent Med/Surg, PCU, or ICU experience required within the last year
• Drip titration experience required, including Heparin, Nitro, Diltiazem, Amiodarone, 3%, and Insulin
• Home trach/vent experience highly preferred; willingness to train and learn trach/vent care required if not experienced
• BSN not required for this position

Additional Information

• Provide direct care to neuro and trauma stepdown patients requiring close monitoring and specialized interventions
• Unit orientation includes 1 shift of general orientation and 1 shift with a preceptor
• Holiday coverage typically required for 2 of 3 winter holidays, otherwise every other holiday
• Dress code allows any solid color scrubs
• All clinicians must clock in and out at the facility
• First-time travelers are welcome to apply
• Candidates who previously worked at the facility must have an end date at least 6 months prior to consideration
• Candidates residing within 80 miles of the facility are considered local
