Description
American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Cardiac Telemetry unit position requiring stroke certification and prior tele, stepdown, or PCU experience.
Details
- Acute care Level II hospital setting on a 34-bed Telemetry unit
- Patient ratios of 1 nurse to 4 patients
- Common diagnoses include post-CVA/stroke, rule-out CHF, respiratory failure, DM, HTN, and post-op and post-cardiac cath/PCI patients (travelers not assigned direct cath/PCI patient care)
- Non-titrating drips including cardizem, with heparin titration only (no insulin drips)
- Telemetry monitored via GE system by off-unit monitor techs, with on-unit monitors as well; nurses must read and interpret their own strips
- Bi-pap ventilator support used on the unit
- Charge nurse staffed each shift and typically does not carry a patient assignment
- Nurse aides available but not guaranteed every shift; primary nursing may be required
- 24/7 in-house hospitalist, respiratory therapy, and pharmacy support
- No IV team and no on-call requirements
- Night shift schedule (7p-7a), 12-hour shifts
- Weekend requirement of 2 weekends per 4-week schedule
- Holiday coverage consistent with core staff (one major and two minor holidays)
- Floating required to Med-Surg Tele floors on 5th, 6th, and 7th floors, with travelers floated first
- Cerner EMR used; orientation is 2 days with Cerner experience or 3 days without
- Standby shifts may be assigned with a 30-minute response time if called in
- Block or set scheduling is not accommodated
Requirements
- Active CA RN license required
- Minimum 2 years of experience required
- Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required
- Stroke certification and experience caring for stroke patients required
- Prior telemetry, stepdown, or PCU experience required
- Cerner EMR experience preferred
- Must be able to pass the Relias Dysrhythmia exam (basic or advanced) prior to offer confirmation
- Must pass a sterile technique test (Foley catheter insertion and central line dressing changes) on the first day of orientation
- Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months worked and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years worked, including dates of employment and rehire eligibility
- Copy of driver's license required for consideration
Additional Information
- Provide telemetry nursing care to a high-acuity cardiac patient population
- Navy scrub color required
- Must reside at least 50 miles from the facility; local rates are not offered
- Cannot have been directly employed (full-time, part-time, or PRN) by any CommonSpirit-affiliated facility, including CHI or Dignity Health, within the past 12 months
- Candidates with a second job will not be considered, as travel assignment scheduling must take priority
- Failing a second attempt at the Relias Dysrhythmia or sterile technique test results in a 6-month do-not-use status with CommonSpirit facilities in the Sacramento, CA region and Arizona
- Travelers have the option to extend assignments up to the one-year mark
- Located centrally near national parks, with Yosemite roughly a 1-2 hour drive and several nearby lakes for outdoor recreation
