Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Surgical Progressive Care Unit position requiring 2 years of experience and proficiency in complex post-surgical patient care.

Details

• Surgical PCU setting with near-ICU level acuity
• Patient population includes ENT (neck dissections, mandibulectomy), Thoracic (esophagectomy, lobectomy, pneumonectomy), General Surgery (pancreatic, bowel/liver resections), Urology (urinary diversions, cystectomies, RPLND), and medical overflow patients
• Staffing ratio of 1:3-4
• Night shift, 4x12 hours (19:00-7:30)
• Works every other weekend per contract, with possible consecutive weekends based on operational needs
• May be required to provide charge nurse coverage with training and resources provided
• Required to float to different levels of care (Med-Surg, PCU, ICU) within the hospital or nearby affiliate hospitals
• Cerner charting system used

Requirements

• Active RN license (IN or Compact) required in hand prior to start date
• BLS and ACLS certification required
• Minimum 2 years of nursing experience required
• Cerner charting experience required
• Proficient in cardiac monitoring, chest tube management, fresh trach care, feeding tube management, and post-op patient care
• Experience with epidurals, non-titratable cardiac drips, and IV insulin protocols/titration required
• Experience with external BiPAP/CPAP, total laryngectomy care, and Doppler flap checks required
• Nursing degree from a university accredited by ACEN or CCNE required
• 2 supervisor references required
• SSN and DOB required for consideration

Additional Information

• Position is at a teaching hospital, requiring willingness to precept and/or have students shadow during the assignment
• Provide surgical PCU-level care to a complex, high-acuity patient population
• Floating is required for all travelers within the hospital system or to nearby affiliate hospitals
• Refusal to float may result in contract termination
• Call-in shifts must be made up during the pay period or added to the end of the contract, depending on FTE status
• Must work 2 of 3 major holidays
• Up to 5 days of non-holiday RTO can be auto-approved; additional time off requires facility approval
• First-time travelers are accepted
• Local candidates are not accepted for this position
• Any current or former IU Health perm or PRN employee must have a 12-month break before applying as a traveler
• Travelers who have accrued 12 months of travel employment within IU Health must take a break to reset eligibility (90 days for out-of-state residents, 180 days for in-state residents)
