Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for an Emergency Department position requiring 2 years of ED experience and an active MD or Compact RN license.

Details

• General Emergency Department treating combined adult/pediatric patients ranging from infant to geriatric
• Fast-paced ED setting with complex, multisystem diagnoses across all body systems
• Patient ratio of 1:4, up to 1:5 with lower acuity patients
• Rotating night/evening shifts (3x12 or 4x12), primarily 19:00-07:30 with some 15:00-03:30
• Every other weekend required
• Holiday coverage required as scheduled
• Floating required within specialty and to sister ED facilities (Cambridge, Chestertown, Queenstown)
• No pre-scheduled on-call shifts required
• Uses Epic charting system
• STEMI and Stroke Certified facility

Requirements

• Active RN license (Maryland or Compact) required at time of consideration
• Current BLS, ACLS, and PALS certifications (AHA only)
• NIHSS certification required
• CPI certification required (completed during onboarding via Calm Every Storm online course)
• NRP or TNCC preferred
• 2 years of ED experience required
• Previous charge nurse experience required
• Community hospital experience required
• Epic charting system experience required
• Skilled in pediatric and psychiatric emergency care, respiratory management (BiPAP/CPAP, ventilator care, intubation, ABG interpretation), IV therapy, central line care, and administration of emergency medications and vasopressors
• Experience with cardiac monitoring, dysrhythmia interpretation/management, and 12-lead EKG acquisition
• Experience managing patients with multisystem organ dysfunction/failure
• Skilled in triage, isolation precautions/PPE, and orthopedic splinting

Additional Information

• Provide emergency nursing care across a wide range of diagnoses including trauma, cardiac, respiratory, neurological, psychiatric, and pediatric emergencies
• Manage patients experiencing acute psychosis, suicidal ideation, drug overdose, and violent behavior
• Perform procedural sedation administration and monitoring
• Care for patients with CVA and other neurological emergencies
• First-time travelers accepted
• Candidates residing under 50 miles from the facility are not accepted unless otherwise noted
• Travelers must complete required labs within 72 hours of signing their contract
• Compliance documents due 5 days prior to start
• Max 7 days RTO can be requested; additional days may require an extended contract
• Returning travelers must have a 6-month break since their last assignment with the health system
• Former staff must be separated from the health system for 12 months before returning as a traveler
