Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced ICU RN for a Float Pool position at a Level I trauma teaching hospital, requiring 2+ years of ICU experience and AZ or compact RN licensure.

• ICU Float Pool position within a Level I trauma center and teaching hospital
• Floats among ICU areas including Tower 2 (medical/surgical/trauma, 1:2 ratio), Tower 4 (cardiothoracic ICU specializing in lung transplants and ECMO, 1:2 ratio), and 4 Neuro (neuro-specific ICU, 1:2 ratio)
• May also float to MedSurg/Tele units (1:4 ratio) and sister campuses including Westgate in Glendale and AZ General in Laveen
• 12-hour night shifts, 7PM-7:30AM
• 4 weekend shifts required per 4-week schedule (Saturdays and Sundays)
• Holiday coverage required based on unit needs
• No call requirement, though standby status during low census requires a 30-minute response time
• Schedule released 4 weeks in advance, subject to change with 2 weeks' notice based on hospital needs
• Uses Cerner EMR
• Manages all types of critical drips and all forms of respiratory support equipment (vents, CPAP, BiPAP, hi-flow)
• Uses GE telemetry monitoring equipment; must be able to read telemetry strips
• 2 shifts of orientation, with a third added only if needed

Requirements

• Active AZ or Compact RN license required; pending licenses not accepted
• BLS and ACLS certification required; NIHSS preferred but not required
• Minimum 2 years of ICU experience required
• Level I trauma center experience required
• Teaching hospital experience preferred due to patient acuity and complexity
• Must be able to function independently when floated to unfamiliar units without refusing assignments
• Must pass an Advanced Dysrhythmia exam (80% passing score) within 2 attempts prior to contract confirmation
• Must pass a Day 1 SIMs Lab skills assessment covering Foley catheter insertion and central line dressing changes, demonstrating sterile field technique
• Driver's license copy required for consideration
• Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months worked, and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years worked, including employment dates and rehire eligibility

Additional Information

• Performs quality 2-person skin assessments within the first 4 hours of each shift
• All patient reports are completed at the bedside
• Additional pass/fail education provided in lifts, restraints, and wound care during orientation
• Must be on the unit in time for shift huddle at 7AM/7PM
• Receives shift assignments via a texting service (GroupMe) 30-60 minutes in advance, or by phone call if texting is not an option
• Must clock in under the correct department code for each unit floated to
• Must reside at least 50 miles from the facility, verified by driver's license
• Candidates who were directly employed (full-time, part-time, or PRN) by any affiliated facility within the past year are not eligible; PRN employment through outside staffing firms is acceptable
• If the Advanced Dysrhythmia or sterile technique test is failed twice, candidates become ineligible for placement within the region for 6 months
• Manager interview required as part of the hiring process
