Description

American Traveler is seeking a Registered Nurse - PACU with SD or compact RN license and critical care experience for night shift consideration, requiring at least 1.5 years of experience.

Details

  • Work in a PreOp-PACU unit with 24 Pre-Op/Phase 2 beds and 19 PACU beds
  • Patient population ranges from infants to geriatric, with limited infant recovery training provided
  • Assists with prep and discharge of Endo patients but does not work Intra-Op
  • Cares for Ambulatory/Elective and Acute care/Trauma patients
  • Staffing ratios: Pre-Op 1:2-3, PACU 1:1 or 1:2, Phase 2 1:2-4, dependent on acuity
  • Charting system is EPIC; also uses Omnicell and Baxter IV pumps
  • Shift options include Days/Variable (3x12s, 0500-2300) or Nights (4x10s, 2030-0700, scheduled in a row)
  • Night shift requires critical care experience with ICU cases including hemodynamic drips and ventilated patients
  • Floating required to PreOp, PACU, Endo prep/discharge, and Phase 2 as needed
  • Weekend call rotation required every 4 weeks (varied hours Fri-Sun)
  • Weekday on-call shift (2300-0700) required approximately every 3-5 weeks, except for Night RN position
  • On-call response time is 15 minutes with sleep room available

Requirements

  • Active SD or compact RN license required
  • Required certifications: BLS, ACLS, PALS
  • Minimum 1.5 years of RN experience required
  • Completion of an approved nursing education program required
  • Night shift RN role requires critical care/ICU experience with hemodynamic drips and ventilated patients
  • Competency required in IV insertion, ventilator training, epidural/PCA setup, blood product transfusion initiation, and moderate sedation monitoring
  • Comfortability with Preop, Recovery, and Discharge of patients required
  • Must be able to care for boarded patients when hospital census is full

Additional Information

  • Provide pre-op, recovery, and discharge care across PreOp, PACU, Phase 2, and Endo prep areas
  • Unit supported by CNAs, charge nurses, clinical resource nurses, respiratory therapy, hospitalists, and anesthesia/CRNA team
  • Orientation includes one week with a day spent in each department (PreOp, PACU, Phase II, Endo)
  • May be expected to precept nursing students
  • Scrub color required: Navy Blue
  • Free parking available in a parking garage
  • Holiday coverage required for 2 holidays per year, rotated among call teams
  • Time off requests are approved through the Manager, and no RTO is considered during the first 3 weeks of August due to the Sturgis Bike Rally
  • First-time travelers are welcome to apply
  • Candidates must reside outside a 100-mile radius, as local travelers are not accepted
