Description
American Traveler is hiring a Labor & Delivery RN with strong Charge experience for a night shift acute care position requiring CA licensure, ACLS, BLS, NRP, and advanced fetal monitoring certification.
Details
- Acute care Labor and Delivery unit functioning as a Nurse Shift Manager (NSM) role
- 18 LDRP rooms, 6 triage spaces, 8 shared med-surg beds for women's care overflow, and 2 self-circulated OR rooms
- Cares for L&D, recovery, postpartum, women's health, and high-risk OB patients, including antepartum and post-C-section patients
- Handles transfers for major maternal or fetal complications requiring higher level of care
- Follows CA state ratio guidelines: 4:1 couplets, 3:1 stable antepartum, 2:1 L&D, 1:1 for deliveries (second NRP nurse present at every birth)
- EMR: Cerner, plus Fetal Link and HUGS infant security systems
- Night shift schedule with every-other-weekend (EOW) requirement, 7a/7p shift start times
- All nurses float across L&D, postpartum, C-section, and women's health areas, with this position first to float
- May be placed on standby call with a 30-minute response time when called in
- Approximately 250 births per month with 24/7 in-house OB, anesthesia, RT, and pharmacy coverage
- Level 2 NICU in-house with NICU charge nurse and RT attending all high-risk deliveries
Requirements
- Active CA RN license required
- BLS, ACLS, NRP, and AWHONN Advanced Fetal Monitoring certifications required
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
- Strong Charge RN experience required
- Must be able to start own IVs
- Cerner charting experience preferred
- Copy of driver's license required for consideration
- Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, including employment dates and rehire eligibility
Additional Information
- Serve as Nurse Shift Manager providing oversight and support on the unit, with a Resource Nurse assisting with breaks and charge duties
- OB techs are available to scrub for procedures
- Unit maintains strong perinatal safety initiatives, evidence-based practices, Pitocin checklists, maternal mental health screening, and pre-eclampsia protocols
- No elective deliveries performed before 39 weeks
- Hospital performs 100% chart audits on the unit
- Facility is a Baby Friendly Hospital promoting immediate skin-to-skin contact and early breastfeeding initiation, and hosts an on-campus lactation store
- Floor-specific orientation includes a minimum of 3 shifts, GNOSIS online OB training, and training with perinatal safety specialists
- Must work at least one major and one minor holiday
- Weekend requirement of 4 shifts within a defined period, typically two consecutive days and two separate days
- L&D scrubs are provided, but navy blue scrubs must be worn to and from work each day
- Triage duties are typically reserved for permanent staff only
