Description
American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Level 1 Trauma Emergency Department, requiring IL licensure and key emergency certifications.
Details
- Level 1 Trauma Emergency Department with 65 all-private beds including 2 trauma bays
- Cares for all patient ages and acuities, from minor complaints to critical illness, cardiac arrest, strokes, and trauma
- Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:3-5 based on acuity
- Travelers may care for stabilized trauma patients once transferred from the trauma bay but will not serve as primary trauma bay nurse
- Evening shift schedule (1P-1A), 12-hour shifts
- Every other weekend rotation required (Sat/Sun or Fri/Sat depending on shift)
- Holiday coverage required every other holiday or per department needs, negotiable by contract
- No call or standby requirements
- Rare floating possible as a 'help all' to other units, not expected to take a patient team
- Uses EPIC EMR
- Philips cardiac monitors used, with monitor tech support but nurses must interpret and act on rhythms
- Respiratory therapists assist with ventilators, CPAP, BiPAP, and high flow equipment
- Radiology staff handle X-ray/CT transport
- Nurses and techs draw labs
- 2 charge nurses per shift plus 24/7 house supervisor support
- Minimum of 3 attending physicians/mid-levels on duty at all times
- ED techs present at a 1:9 ratio
Requirements
- Active IL RN license required
- Minimum 2 years of ED nursing experience preferred
- Required certifications: BLS, ACLS, ENPC or PALS, TNCC or TNS
- Must be proficient in titrating vasopressor and cardiac drips, antihypertensives, and other critical care medications
- Must be able to recognize and act on life-threatening cardiac rhythms
- SANE RN experience preferred
- Experience at a teaching hospital with residents preferred
- At least 1 prior travel assignment preferred
- EPIC EMR experience preferred
Additional Information
- Provide direct patient care across a wide range of ED presentations including trauma, cardiac, and stroke cases
- Scheduled by the facility's scheduling manager rather than self-scheduling, with time-off requests reviewed and approved based on departmental needs
- Block scheduling available when possible, often resulting in rotations such as 2-on/4-on or up to 6 days in a row
- No specific scrub color required, but attire should be tasteful with solid-colored shirts underneath
- Local candidates accepted
- No radius rule, though local rate applies to clinicians with a permanent address within 50 miles of the facility
- 12 hours of non-billable orientation required
- Negative drug screen required for all panels as part of the facility's Drug-Free Campus policy
