Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for an Emergency Department position at a Level 1 Trauma, academic medical center requiring prior trauma experience and TNCC certification.

Details

  • Level 1 Trauma Center emergency department within an academic medical center
  • Unit has 55 horizontal beds, 6 vertical beds, 15 observation beds, and 5 behavioral health holding beds
  • Average daily census of 200-220 patients
  • Receives frequent air transport patients and will have two helicopter pads post-renovation
  • Treats all ED patient types including Trauma, Stroke, STEMI, and Burn cases across ESI levels 1-5
  • Common cases include GSWs, stabbings, multi-trauma, MVCs, MI, CVA, hypothermia, drownings, falls, conscious sedations, cardiac/respiratory arrest, sexual assault, overdoses, psychosis, and vent management
  • RN patient ratios range from 3:1 to 6:1 based on clinical area and acuity
  • 12-hour night shifts from 1900-0700, scheduled for 36 hours per week
  • Every other weekend rotation required
  • 75% of holidays required
  • No on-call or call-back requirements
  • May float to the ED Transition Care Unit
  • Uses Epic EMR, Alaris IV pumps, Omnicell medication dispensing, Philips monitors, GE ultrasound, and GE EKG machines

Requirements

  • Active RN license (NC or Compact) required
  • Current BLS, ACLS, NIHSS, and TNCC certifications required
  • Minimum 2 years of ED experience required
  • First-time travelers considered only with 3+ years of Level 1 trauma center experience
  • Minimum 12 months of core ED experience within the last year required
  • Epic EMR experience required
  • At least one professional reference dated within the past year from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN required
  • Last 4 digits of SSN and full date of birth required for consideration

Additional Information

  • Provide comprehensive emergency nursing care using evidence-based practice and clinical decision-making across a wide range of trauma and acute presentations
  • Support staff includes ED Techs, Unit Secretary, Charge Nurse, Resource/Pod Leader Nurses, 24/7 Critical Care Pharmacists, Paramedic Staff, 24/7 Respiratory Therapy, 24/7 Hospitalist and Intensivist coverage, and a SANE Quality Coordinator
  • ED Techs perform ADLs, vital signs, I/O catheterization, foley placement, and phlebotomy
  • Orientation includes New Employee Orientation (NEO) plus 2 days of departmental orientation
  • Unit currently in the second of three renovation phases
  • Travelers unlikely to be utilized in trauma bays during initial contracts
  • Royal blue scrub color required
  • Free parking available
  • Must be separated from any AHSE facility for at least 1 year if previously in a permanent position there
  • Local candidates not accepted; 50-mile radius rule applies for this facility
