Description
American Traveler is hiring a Med/Surg RN for a 13-week acute care assignment requiring at least 1 year of MS experience and EPIC proficiency.
Details
- Med/Surg unit in an acute care, Trauma Level 3 facility with 38 beds
- Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:5-6 days and nights, must be able to take 6
- Patient population includes adults and older teens with diagnoses such as pneumonia, UTI, dehydration, influenza, alcohol withdrawal, and respiratory virus
- Surgical patient population includes ortho (hips, knees, shoulders), general surgery (appendix, gallbladder, bowel), spinal surgery, and urology cases
- RNs required to titrate drips including Heparin, and manage set-rate drips such as Bumex and Lasix
- Cardiac tech available 24/7, RNs not required to read own telemetry strips
- Nursing supervisor on-site 24/7, two charge nurses on days and one on nights who do not typically take patients
- Nurse aides present with 1:8-1:10 ratios, perform accuchecks and vital signs
- Respiratory therapy support available 24/7 for trach, CPAP, BiPAP, and high flow patients
- EPIC EMR used for charting
- Schedule consists of 3x12-hour day shifts
- May float to IMCU for Med/Surg assignments
- Weekend and holiday coverage required as needed
- Low census call/standby may apply
Requirements
- Active RN license (NE or Compact)
- BLS certification (AHA or ARC)
- CPI certification required
- Minimum 1 year of Med/Surg experience required
- EPIC documentation experience required
- Experience with bedside shift report required
- Must be able to take a 1:6 patient ratio
- Should have experience with the shift type being submitted for (days vs nights)
Additional Information
- Participate in bedside shift report and proactive patient rounding
- Collaborate as part of a care team, assisting with call lights and working closely with CNAs
- Unit-specific orientation consists of 1.5 shifts
- Navy blue scrubs required
- Must reside within a 45-mile radius of the facility
- Cancellation policy allows up to 3 shifts per 13-week assignment
- First-time travelers are welcome to apply
- No self-scheduling for travel RNs, though blocked scheduling may be accommodated at times
