Description
American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Tele Pulmonary unit position requiring ACLS certification and IMC skills at a Level 1 trauma, Magnet-designated facility.
Details
- Acute care setting on a 30-bed medical cardiopulmonary unit and an 8-bed intermediate/progressive care unit
- Level 1 trauma facility
- Patient population includes pneumonia, COPD, CHF, pulmonary embolism, and complex pulmonary cases requiring ventilation and cardiac monitoring
- Average length of stay is 4 days on the Medical Unit and 9 days in Pulmonary Acute
- Night shift schedule, 36 hours per week, 12-hour shifts
- Every other weekend and every other holiday required
- Nurse-to-patient ratios of 1:2-3 in Pulmonary Acute for IMC-trained RNs, 1:4-5 on day shifts, and 1:5-6 on night shifts in Medical Cardiopulmonary
- Uses Epic EMR, Alaris pumps for IV fluids, and Omnicell for medications
- Floating required to Med-Surg units, with travelers prioritized for reassignment
- RNs with IMC skill sets may work in both the Medical Cardiopulmonary and IMC Pulmonary Acute units
Requirements
- Active SD or compact RN license required
- BLS and ACLS certification (AHA) required
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
- IMC skill set required, including trach/vent care and management
- Experience with BiPap, CPAP, heated high flow, and oxygen titration
- Experience with moderate sedation monitoring alongside ACLS
- Experience with cardiac drips (Cardizem, Amiodarone), Heparin drips, and Lasix administration
- Experience with telemetry monitoring and Medical-Surgical patient care including chest tubes, blood administration, ABG interpretation, central line management, and post-procedural care
- Epic EMR experience preferred
- BSN and specialty certification preferred
Additional Information
- Provide patient care for a diverse cardiopulmonary population including oxygen therapy, IV medications, moderate sedation during bronchoscopies, chest tubes, tracheostomies, and mechanical/non-invasive ventilation
- Collaborate with an interdisciplinary team including case managers, social workers, respiratory therapists, pharmacists, and physical therapists
- Work closely with pulmonary intensivists and hospitalist teams
- 3-day orientation includes competency validation, online modules, core competency checks, a precepted shift, and a 12-hour orientation shift on the unit
- Dress code requires blue scrubs and closed-toed shoes
- Facility is a Magnet-designated organization with opportunities to engage in unit-specific or hospital-wide committees
- First-time travelers may be considered for this position
- Candidates with previous employment at this health system must have an end date at least 6 months prior to consideration
