Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Progressive Care Unit (PCU) position requiring 18 months of PCU experience and a NC or compact RN license.
Details
- Work in the Medical Telemetry/PCU unit of a Trauma Level III teaching hospital
- 14 private rooms with no negative pressure capability
- Patient population includes heart failure, chest pain, fluid resuscitation/blood products, COPD, and cardiac cath pre/post cases, as well as medical overflow
- RN to patient ratio of 1:4-6 (acuity dependent, surge up to 1:7-8), or 1:4 for PCU patients; CNA ratio of 1:7
- Uses Epic EMR, Alaris IV pumps, Omnicell medication dispensing, and Phillips monitors
- Unit-specific equipment includes bladder scanner, EKG machine, and transport monitor
- 12-hour night shift schedule (1845-0715) on a 6-week cycle, 36 hours per week
- Every other weekend rotation required
- No on-call requirements
- Required to float within Region 1 facilities (Cabarrus, University City, Stanly, Lake Norman, Central Division including CMC Main, Mercy, and LCH) based on staffing needs
Requirements
- Active RN license (NC or Compact) required
- Current certifications: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS
- Minimum 18 months of PCU RN experience required, with most recent experience within the last year
- Skills required include PIV starts, NG tube placement/management, Pleurx drains, surgical drain management, chest tube management, cardiac rhythm interpretation, non-titratable cardiac drips (Cardizem), and TR bands
- Epic EMR experience required
- Last 4 digits of SSN and full DOB required for consideration
- Minimum 1 professional reference dated within the last year from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN
Additional Information
- Provide direct patient care in a Chest Pain Center, Stroke Center of Excellence, and Bariatric Center of Excellence
- Support team includes CNAs trained in phlebotomy, 12-lead EKGs, and glucometer use, a dedicated IV/VAT team, 24/7 Respiratory Therapy, and 24/7 Hospitalist coverage
- Charge nurse may or may not carry a patient assignment
- Telemetry monitoring is performed remotely in an off-unit arrhythmia center with visual EKG access at the nurses' station
- Orientation includes New Employee Orientation (NEO) and 2 days of departmental orientation
- Travelers will be required to work 75% of holidays
- Up to 6 days of RTO may be approved, excluding holidays, with any missed contracted hours added to the end of the contract
- Navy scrub color required
- Free parking available
- Unit culture is described as professional and team-oriented
- First-time travelers will not be considered for this position
- Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to be eligible; local candidates are not accepted
- Returning employees must be separated from any Advocate Health Southeast facility for at least 1 year after working a permanent position
