Description

American Traveler is hiring a Labor & Delivery RN with Charge Nurse experience for a high-risk L&D unit requiring an active AK RN license.

Details

  • Works in a high-risk Labor & Delivery unit with 10 OB Triage rooms, 10 LDR rooms, 3 OR suites, and 4 PACU rooms
  • Average 7 daily deliveries with up to 14 patients including inductions and high-risk antepartum care
  • OB Triage averages 4-5 third trimester testing patients plus additional triage patients daily
  • Facility averages 100-200 births per month
  • Night shift schedule, 3x12 or 4x12 hour shifts from 19:00-7:30
  • Every other weekend required
  • No on-call requirements
  • May float to like units within the hospital or nearby affiliate hospitals as needed
  • Uses Epic charting system
  • Scrubs provided by facility

Requirements

  • Active AK RN license required in hand
  • Minimum 1 year of Labor & Delivery experience
  • BLS, ACLS, NRP, AWHONN Intermediate, and AWHONN Advanced certifications required
  • Epic charting experience required
  • Charge Nurse experience preferred or willingness to train as charge
  • Teaching hospital experience preferred
  • Skills in labor and delivery management including assisting with high-risk and vaginal deliveries, circulating and scrubbing for C-sections, and sterile vaginal exams
  • Experience with fetal monitoring including external and internal fetal monitoring and IUPC placement
  • Experience with high-risk conditions such as pre-eclampsia, multiple gestation, preterm labor, and VBAC management
  • 2 references covering 1 year of employment within the last 3 years, from a comparable specialty/setting
  • Candidate's permanent address must be at least 50 miles from the facility

Additional Information

  • Regularly expected to work in the Charge Nurse role
  • Provide comprehensive L&D care including antepartum, high-risk antepartum, and mother/baby care
  • Administer medications such as antihypertensives, insulin drips, magnesium sulfate, pitocin, and terbutaline
  • Perform neonatal care in the delivery room including APGAR scoring and neonatal resuscitation
  • Provide newborn care including assessments, cord care, and discharge teaching
  • Assist with postpartum care including couplet care, hemorrhage management, and wound care
  • Support epidural, general anesthesia, and nitrous oxide pain management
  • This is a Magnet-designated, Level II Trauma facility recognized as a USNWR Best Hospital in Alaska
  • Must be willing to work 2 of the 3 major holidays: Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year's
  • Floating required within the hospital or to nearby affiliate hospitals as needed
  • Former permanent staff must be separated from the health system for at least 3 months before returning as a traveler
  • Travelers may work a maximum of 1 calendar year in this assignment before requiring a 6-month break before returning
  • First-time travelers are welcome to apply
  • Local candidates are not accepted due to the 50-mile radius requirement
  • All requested time off must be submitted and approved individually at time of offer
  • Hepatitis B vaccination required; titers or declinations not accepted
