Description
American Traveler is hiring a Labor & Delivery RN with charge nurse capability for a high-risk L&D unit, requiring an active AK RN license and night shift availability.
Details
- High-risk Labor & Delivery unit with 10 OB Triage rooms, 10 LDR rooms, 3 OR suites, and 4 PACU rooms
- Average of 7 daily deliveries with up to 14 patients including inductions and high-risk antepartum cases
- OB Triage averages 4-5 third trimester testing patients plus additional triage patients daily
- Facility performs 100-200 births per month
- Night shift schedule, 4x12 hours (19:00-7:30)
- Every other weekend required
- No on-call requirements
- May float to like units within the hospital or to nearby affiliate hospitals as needed
- Charting completed in Epic
- Scrubs provided by facility
Requirements
- Active AK RN license required in hand
- Minimum 1 year of Labor & Delivery experience
- Certifications required: BLS, ACLS, AWHONN Intermediate, AWHONN Advanced, NRP
- Epic charting experience required
- Charge nurse experience preferred or willingness to train for charge role
- Teaching hospital experience preferred
- Skills in IV therapy, phlebotomy, blood product administration, and IV/infusion pump management
- Experience assisting with vaginal and high-risk deliveries, circulating/scrubbing/recovering C-sections, and sterile vaginal exams
- Experience with fetal monitoring including external and internal fetal monitoring and IUPC placement
- Experience with antepartum, postpartum, and newborn care including newborn assessment and neonatal resuscitation
- Experience administering medications such as Pitocin, Magnesium Sulfate, insulin drips, and antihypertensives
- Two supervisory references covering 1 year of employment within the last 3 years in a comparable specialty required
- Copy of certifications required for consideration
Additional Information
- Work in a Magnet-designated, Level II Trauma acute care hospital recognized as a USNWR Best Hospital in Alaska
- Facility has 407 total staffed beds
- Expected to regularly work in the Charge Nurse role
- Must be willing to work 2 of the 3 major holidays: Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year
- Candidates must live at least 50 miles from the facility, and local candidates are not accepted
- Former Providence permanent staff must wait a minimum of 3 months before returning as a traveler
- Travelers may work a maximum of 1 calendar year at this assignment before requiring a 6-month break to return
- RTO must be submitted and is approved on an individual basis upon offer
- First-time travelers are welcome to apply
- Facility only accepts Hepatitis B vaccination, not titers or declinations
- Housing options in the area may be limited
