Description
American Traveler is seeking an RN for a PACU position requiring at least 1.5 years of experience and ACLS/PALS certification in a hospital Pre-Op/PACU unit.
Details
- Work in a Pre-Op/PACU/Phase 2/Endo unit with 24 Pre-Op/Phase 2 beds and 19 PACU beds
- Care for patients ranging from infants to geriatric, with training provided for infant recovery as needed
- Assist with prep and discharge of Endoscopy patients, without working Intra-Op
- Treat ambulatory/elective and acute care/trauma patient populations
- Patient ratios vary by unit: Pre-Op 1:2-3, PACU 1:1 or 1:2, Phase 2 1:2-4, dependent on acuity
- Variable 12-hour day shifts (0500-2300) or 10-hour night shifts (2030-0700), scheduled 36 hours per week
- Night shift requires Critical Care experience with ICU cases, hemodynamic drips, and ventilated patients
- Weekend call rotation required approximately every 4 weeks (Fri-Sun, varied hours)
- On-call shifts required approximately every 3-5 weeks (2300-0700, Monday-Friday), with a 15-minute response time; night shift RNs are exempt from this call requirement
- Floating required to PreOp, PACU, Endo prep/discharge, and Phase 2 as needed within scope of practice
- Uses EPIC charting system, Omnicell, and Baxter IV pumps
Requirements
- Active RN license (South Dakota or Compact) required
- Minimum of 1.5 years of RN experience required
- Current BLS, ACLS, and PALS certifications required
- Completion of an accredited nursing education program required
- Night shift RN candidates must have Critical Care experience and competencies with ICU cases including hemodynamic drips and ventilated patients
- Competency with IV insertion, ventilator management, epidural/PCA setup, blood product transfusions, and moderate sedation administration/monitoring preferred or trainable during orientation
- EPIC experience preferred; notify recruiter if not applicable
Additional Information
- Provide pre-op preparation, PACU recovery, and discharge care across multiple perioperative units
- Support includes CNAs, charge nurses, resource nurses, respiratory therapy, hospitalists, and anesthesia/CRNA teams
- May be required to board patients when inpatient beds are unavailable
- May be asked to precept nursing students
- One week orientation with one day spent in each department (PreOp, PACU, Phase II, Endo)
- Holiday coverage required approximately twice per year, rotated among call teams
- Time off requests are approved by the manager; no RTO considered during the first three weeks of August due to the Sturgis Bike Rally
- Navy blue scrubs required
- Free parking available in a parking garage
- Candidates must reside outside a 100-mile radius; no local travelers accepted
- First-time travelers are welcome to apply
