Description
American Traveler is hiring a Progressive Care Unit RN with strong vasoactive drip titration experience for a night shift role requiring NC or compact RN licensure.
Details
- PCU/ICU stepdown unit functioning more like an ICU, with strong drip management experience required
- 20-bed unit with an average daily census of 18 and target ratios of 1:3-4
- Patient population includes post rapid response team patients, respiratory distress, unstable hemodynamics, withdrawal, GI bleeds, and post-op GYN, GU, GI, thoracotomy, neuro, and ortho surgeries
- Pre/post OB patients with complications such as Pitocin administration also cared for on unit
- Patients range from adolescent to geriatric age groups
- Manages single pressor drips (Cardizem, Nitro, Precedex, Cardene, Levophed, Dopamine, Dobutamine, Neo); patients requiring more than one are transferred to ICU
- Uses bedside telemetry monitors with remote backup, arterial lines, BIPAP, chest tubes, and tracheostomy care; no ventilators on unit
- Charts in Epic and uses Pyxis for medication management
- 12-hour night shifts (18:45-7:15) on a 4x12 schedule
- Every other weekend requirement
- Floating required as needed to a sister ICCU unit
- No block scheduling available; schedule created by nurse manager
Requirements
- Active RN license (NC or Compact)
- Current ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS certifications
- Minimum 2 years of relevant RN experience required
- Required experience with arterial lines and titrating vasoactive and cardiac drips
- Experience with PCU/DOU/IMC/Stepdown and telemetry units required
- Must be able to interpret and manage dysrhythmias
- Experience with IV insulin protocols, heparin protocols, blood product administration, and central/peripheral/PICC line care/management required
- Experience managing chest tubes (Emerson/Pleur-evac), external CPAP/BIPAP, high flow nasal cannula, nasal cannula, and non-invasive airway management required
- Tracheostomy management experience required
- Experience with isolation precautions and use of rapid response teams required
- IV start, telemetry monitoring, and conscious sedation experience required
- Epic charting experience preferred
- Must pass EKG testing prior to start for this specialty
Additional Information
- Provide stepdown-level nursing care including dysrhythmia recognition and management, drip titration, and rapid response support
- Navy, white, or combination navy/white scrubs required
- Hospital orientation held during the first week; must be available for classes each day
- First-time travelers are welcome to apply
- Travel pairs are allowed if assigned to different units and disclosed at time of submission
- Former PERM/PRN/EP employees of Novant Health or New Hanover must wait 12 months before reapplying as a traveler, with facility approval required
- Local candidates within 50 miles accepted at a lower rate
- Up to 7 days of RTO may be auto-approved if not falling on a holiday; no RTO permitted during the first week of assignment
- Must work 2 of 3 major holidays
- Current travel per diem clinicians must choose between per diem or travel contract status
