Description
American Traveler is hiring an RN for an Oncology Med/Surg-Tele unit requiring 2+ years of experience and an ONS Chemotherapy/Immunotherapy Provider certification.
Details
- Oncology unit providing care for chemo patients, past/present cancer diagnoses, and inpatient hospice patients requiring general inpatient care
- 14 private rooms with ceiling lifts and negative/positive-pressure rooms for infection control
- Patient ratio of 1:6
- Cardiac monitoring provided for applicable patients
- Unit does not accept patients with infections that may compromise the oncology population, COVID-19, airborne isolation, or peritoneal dialysis patients
- Night shift, 3x12-hour shifts (19:00-7:30)
- Every other weekend required (Sat/Sun)
- Every other holiday required
- Floats to other MS/Tele units as needed, with a designated home unit
- Epic charting experience required
Requirements
- Active NJ or Compact RN license required
- Minimum 2 years of experience required
- Current certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS
- ONS Chemotherapy/Immunotherapy Provider Card required (Fundamentals course not accepted)
- Experience with port access, blood/blood products, central-line care, PICC/implanted-line management, and infusion pumps
- Chemotherapy administration/monitoring experience including continuous infusion, IV push, and oral chemo
- Experience managing cytotoxic spills and post-chemo body-fluid handling
- Knowledge of symptom management for oncology emergencies including ATLS, anaphylaxis, extravasation, hemorrhage, and sepsis
- Experience with pain management medications including IV-push narcotics and transdermal patches
- Skills in chest tube care, colostomy/ileostomy care, Foley catheter insertion, and dysrhythmia interpretation
- Experience with isolation precautions/PPE and telephone triage
Additional Information
- Provide oncology and medical-surgical nursing care, including chemotherapy administration and symptom management
- Support patients and families with psychosocial needs, including advance directives, hospice care, and end-of-life discussions
- Collaborate with pediatric teams as needed for care coordination
- Unit staffed by nurses certified in cancer services and recognized with a national Silver-level Beacon Award for Excellence
- Scrubs of any color permitted
- Flu vaccine required; declinations not accepted, though medical/religious exemptions are accepted with mask use
- First-time travelers welcome to apply
- Local candidates accepted at the same rate
- RTO requests must be submitted at time of application and are subject to unit approval
- Limited winter RTO available between Dec 15-Jan 5, up to two consecutive PTO days
