Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced NICU RN for a night shift position requiring NRP certification and a compact or LA RN license in hand.

Details

  • Work in the Neonatal ICU (NICU II, III, and IV) of a hospital setting
  • Neonatal patient population including infants under 24-28 weeks, 29-34 weeks, and over 34 weeks gestation
  • Average daily census of 30 with a 1:3 patient ratio
  • Night shift schedule (6:45 PM - 7:15 AM), open to 3x12 or 4x12 shifts
  • Every other weekend coverage required
  • Floating required to Mother Baby (couplet care) and Pediatrics
  • Epic EMR experience required
  • No call-in requirement

Requirements

  • Active RN license (Compact or Louisiana) required in hand at time of submission
  • Current BLS and NRP certifications required
  • AHA certifications required
  • 3 years of NICU experience required for first-time travelers; 2 years required for experienced travelers
  • Epic charting system experience required
  • Skilled in IV therapy, starting and maintaining IVs, and administration of blood and blood products
  • Experience with neonatal dosage calculations, emergency medications, and antibiotics/antivirals
  • Proficient in APGAR scoring, developmental care, phlebotomy, and thermoregulation
  • Experience with blood glucose monitoring, phototherapy, and hyperbilirubinemia management
  • Skilled in feedings (bottle, breast, gavage) and placement/management of oral/nasogastric/nasojejunal tubes
  • Experience with Bubble CPAP, High Flow Nasal Cannula (HFNC), and oxygen delivery systems
  • Knowledge of respiratory distress syndrome, neonatal sepsis, and sepsis work-up
  • Experience with isolation precautions and PPE
  • Valid driver's license required for consideration
  • Up-to-date NURSYS report required (within 4 weeks of submission)

Additional Information

  • Provide direct patient care to critically ill neonates in a high-acuity NICU environment
  • Support breastfeeding and proper handling of breast milk for NICU patients
  • Participate in patient/family teaching regarding neonatal care and conditions
  • Assist with procedures such as lumbar puncture and management of UAC/UVC lines as needed
  • May be assigned to an emergency response team during facility emergency events with expectation to remain onsite or serve as relief staff
  • Willing to work 2 of 4 designated holiday periods annually (Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year's)
  • Orientation held 5 days a week
  • First-time travelers welcome to apply with required experience level
  • Must reside more than 65 miles from the facility; local candidates not accepted
  • Previous Ochsner Health System permanent staff or in-house agency contractors must have a 1-year separation before returning as a traveler
  • All requested time off (RTO) must be disclosed on profile and discussed during interview
  • Two manager/supervisor references required prior to starting contract (charge RN references not accepted)
