Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced NICU RN for a night shift position requiring NRP certification and compact or LA RN license in hand.

Details

  • Work in the NICU with a Level III-IV patient acuity
  • Average daily census of 30 with a 1:3 patient ratio
  • Night shift schedule (4x12 hours, 1845-0715), with manager open to 3x12s
  • Floating required to mother/baby and pediatrics units
  • Every other weekend coverage required
  • No on-call requirements
  • Epic EMR experience required

Requirements

  • Active RN license (Compact or LA) in hand required at time of submission
  • Current certifications: BLS and NRP
  • 2 years of NICU experience required for previous travelers
  • 3 years of NICU experience required for first-time travelers
  • Experience with IV therapy, administration of blood and blood products, and starting/maintaining IVs
  • Experience with neonatal emergency medications, anti-seizure medications, antibiotics, and antivirals
  • Experience with APGAR scoring, developmental care, and patient/family teaching
  • Experience with thermoregulation, neonatal abstinence syndrome, and neurologic care
  • Experience with blood glucose monitoring, hyperbilirubinemia, and phototherapy
  • Experience with breastfeeding support, breast milk handling, and feeding management (bottle, breast, gavage)
  • Experience with oral/nasogastric/nasojejunal tube placement and management
  • Experience with high flow nasal cannula and oxygen delivery systems
  • Experience with respiratory distress syndrome management
  • Experience with telemetry monitoring and isolation precautions/PPE
  • Experience with neonatal sepsis and sepsis work-up
  • Driver's license required for consideration
  • Up-to-date NURSYS report required for consideration

Additional Information

  • Care for neonates ranging from under 24-28 weeks to over 34 weeks gestation
  • Care team may require staying onsite during emergency events as part of an emergency response team
  • Must reside more than 65 miles from the facility address as listed on driver's license; local candidates not accepted
  • First-time travelers welcome to apply with required experience level
  • Previous permanent staff or in-house agency contractors must be separated from the health system for one full year before returning as a travel employee
  • All requested time off (RTO) must be documented on file and discussed during the interview process
  • Willingness to work 2 of 4 designated holiday periods annually (Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year's) required
  • Orientation held five days per week
  • Two manager or supervisor references required to obtain clearance to start contract (charge RN references not accepted)
