Description
American Traveler is hiring a Registered Nurse for a NICU II/Special Care Nursery position requiring 2 years of recent neonatal experience and prior travel assignment experience.
Details
- Work in the NICU II/Special Care Nursery unit of a hospital
- Patient ratio of 1:2-3
- Night shift schedule (4x12 hours), 18:50-07:20
- Every other weekend required, with variable weekend coverage
- Float to Mother/Baby unit required (newborn assignments only)
- Patient population includes neonates 29 weeks and older
- Treats conditions including neonatal opioid withdrawal, hyperbilirubinemia, tachypnea of the newborn, feeder/growers, boarders, and sepsis
- Attends high-risk deliveries
- Performs CPAP, short-term ventilator support, umbilical vein catheter setup, and gavage feeding
- Cerner charting system experience preferred
Requirements
- Active RN license - MD license or compact license required
- Current certifications: BLS, NRP, and STABLE (STABLE in hand preferred at time of consideration; if not held, must schedule class after signing)
- Minimum 2 years of recent NICU/Special Care Nursery experience within the last 7 years
- Must have completed at least 1 previous travel assignment
- Must pass the Relias EKG Rhythm Interpretation Exam with a minimum 80% overall score and 100% on lethal rhythms
- Skills required include neonatal dosage calculations, APGAR scoring, developmental care, thermoregulation, IV therapy, UVC management, and assistance with lumbar puncture
- Experience with bubble CPAP, high flow nasal cannula, ventilator management, and suctioning (ETT, NT)
- Two supervisory references required, including one from the most recent assignment, supporting at least 2 years of experience in the previous 3 years
- PALS and UAC experience preferred
- Community hospital and Level 1 Nursery experience preferred
- Charge and preceptor experience preferred but not required
Additional Information
- Provide direct nursing care within the NICU II/Special Care Nursery setting
- Scrubs provided
- Flu vaccine required for all employees
- Must reside within a 60-mile radius for local rate eligibility
- No RTO permitted during the first two weeks of the assignment
- Maximum of 7 days RTO permitted per 13-week contract
- Previous MedStar employees must have been separated for a minimum of one year before returning as a traveler
- First-time travelers are not eligible; prior travel assignment experience is required
