Description
American Traveler is hiring a Cardiovascular ICU RN for a 13-week night shift assignment requiring at least 2 years of CVICU experience and WV or compact RN licensure.
Details
- Work in an 18-bed CVICU with mixed acuity Step Down and ICU status patients
- Nurse:patient ratios of 1:1 for fresh hearts and devices, 1:2 for ICU status, and 1:3 for step down status patients
- Patient population includes atrial fibrillation, heart blocks, bradycardia, NSTEMI, STEMI, cardiac arrest, pulmonary embolisms, cardiogenic shock, heart surgery (CABG/valves), heart failure, and thoracic surgery
- Uses EPIC EMR
- 12-hour night shifts with weekends as scheduled every other weekend
- Holiday coverage as needed to fill unit needs
- No call or standby requirement
- Travelers float first, primarily to ACU and ICU, and may float to Med-Surg and Tele with a max of 6 patients
- RNs titrate drips including Cardizem, Cordarone, Cardene, Nitroglycerin, Esmolol, Cleviprex, Milrinone, Dopamine, Dobutamine, Lasix, Bumex, Epinephrine, Levophed, Vasopressin, Insulin, Heparin, Aggrastat, Precedex, Propofol, Versed, and Fentanyl
- 1-2 PCTs per shift support the unit
- Hospitalist/Intensivist and RT coverage in-house 24/7
- Monitor techs watch telemetry off-unit, but RNs address alarms and read their own strips every 4 hours using Philips monitors
- Self-scheduling and block scheduling requests allowed, subject to unit needs during schedule balancing
- Rare potential to work charge on night shift
Requirements
- Active WV or compact RN license required
- BLS and ACLS certification (AHA) required
- Minimum 2 years of CVICU experience required
- Experience with at least 6-hour post-op open heart patients required; fresh open heart experience preferred
- CRRT experience required
- Temporary pacemaker and post-permanent pacer experience required
- Acute MI pre/post cath experience required
- Mediastinal/chest tube experience required
- Ventilator experience required
- Hypothermia protocol experience required
- Arterial line experience required
- IABP/Impella experience preferred
- Hemodynamic monitoring/Swan-Ganz experience preferred
- EPIC EMR experience preferred
- Unexpired driver's license copy required for consideration
Additional Information
- Provide critical care nursing to cardiovascular and post-surgical cardiac/thoracic patients
- Royal blue scrubs required
- 1-week unit orientation including modules, EPIC training, and orienting with a unit RN
- Must reside within a 50-mile radius of the facility, with no local travelers accepted
- Returning WVU Medicine travelers must have taken a 2-year break before reapplying
- Travelers may not work within WVU Medicine for longer than one year without taking a 2-year break, with cumulative experience applying
- All candidates interview directly with the unit manager
