Description

American Traveler is hiring an RN for a Med/Surg/Tele Float Pool position requiring 2+ years of experience and the ability to read and interpret telemetry strips.

Details

• Acute care Level 2 trauma hospital setting within a Med/Surg/Tele Float Pool
• Floats primarily to 6N (36 beds) and 7N (29 beds), with additional float coverage to 4N, 5S, 6S, and Critical Care
• Nurse-to-patient ratios typically 1:5-6, occasionally up to 1:7 depending on acuity
• Common diagnoses include CHF, cardiac cath, chest pain, pneumonia, chronic renal disease, COPD, ortho, and oncology
• Uses EPIC EMR
• Telemetry monitoring with Phillips monitors; RNs must be able to read and interpret strips but will not titrate drips
• 12-hour night shifts, 7p-7a, weekend nights required
• Every-other-weekend requirement, Sat/Sun nights
• Participates in holiday rotation alongside permanent staff
• Charge nurse available on every unit; night charge nurse takes patient assignment
• CNAs utilized on all units
• RT manages CPAP/BiPap respiratory equipment
• Unit assignments given at the clinical coordinator's office prior to shift start, typically to an assigned 'parent unit'

Requirements

• Active WV or compact RN license required
• BLS and ACLS certification required
• Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
• Must pass a cardiac rhythm exam prior to starting
• Ability to read and interpret telemetry strips required
• Copy of unexpired driver's license required for consideration

Additional Information

• Provide direct patient care across multiple med/surg and telemetry units as part of a float pool team
• 1-2 shifts of unit orientation provided with a preceptor
• Royal blue scrubs required
• Cancellation policy allows up to 2 shifts per 13-week contract
• Must reside outside a 50-mile radius to qualify for travel assignment eligibility
• Travelers must complete a 2-year break before returning to any WVU Medicine facility after a prior assignment
• Travelers may not work within the WVU system for longer than one year cumulatively before taking a required 2-year break
