Description
American Traveler is hiring an experienced Telemetry RN for a 13-week night shift assignment requiring 5+ years of nursing experience and at least 1 year of travel experience.
Details
- Acute care telemetry unit with 20 private-bed rooms
- Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:5 for telemetry patients and 1:3-4 for stepdown patients
- Patient population includes telemetry, post-catheterization, medical/surgical with telemetry monitoring, and respiratory difficulty cases
- Variable daily census with 1-2 up to 10 admissions/discharges per day
- Uses EPIC EMR
- 3x12-hour night shifts, 7p-7:30a
- Every other weekend required (Friday/Saturday for night shift)
- Every other holiday rotation required (Memorial Day, 4th of July, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year's)
- No on-call requirements
- Floating may occur to comparable or lower-level units (telemetry or med/surg), including occasional support for boarded ED or ICU-housed floor/tele patients
- Cardiac monitoring includes 10 hardwired rooms and portable telemetry capability with dedicated monitor techs
- Point of care testing includes blood sugar monitoring via AccuChek glucometer
- Nurses place IVs and reconstitute antibiotics; may manage titrating heparin (telemetry) or diltiazem (stepdown)
- Unit-based pharmacist available 7a-3p with 24/7 main pharmacy coverage
- RT present in building 24/7; no ventilators on unit
- At least one covering hospitalist 24/7
- Self-scheduling available for travelers
Requirements
- Active WV or compact RN license
- Required certifications: BLS (AHA), ACLS (AHA), NIHSS
- Minimum 5 years of RN experience required
- Minimum 1 year of travel nursing experience required
- EPIC experience preferred
- Driver's license copy required for consideration
Additional Information
- Provide telemetry nursing care including dysrhythmia monitoring and verification of tele strip interpretations
- Designated charge nurse supports the unit when fully staffed
- 2 PCTs support the 20-bed unit with ambulation, vitals, bathing, I&O documentation, feeding, and turning
- Travelers may be asked to precept or take charge based on comfort level, with discussion prior to assignment
- Orientation consists of education modules and shadowing on day one, full orientation on day two, and independent work by day three
- Must provide own navy blue scrubs
- Must reside outside a 50-mile radius from the facility based on driver's license address
- Previous WVU Medicine travelers or permanent staff must have a 2-year break before reapplying
- Travelers may not work within the WVU system for longer than 1 year cumulatively before requiring a 2-year break
- Candidates can only be submitted to one WVU facility at a time
