Description
American Traveler is hiring a Registered Nurse for a Surgical PCU position requiring 2+ years of experience and a high level of surgical and cardiac monitoring skills.
Details
- Surgical Progressive Care Unit with near-ICU level acuity
- Patient population includes ENT (neck dissections, mandibulectomy), Thoracic (esophagectomy, lobectomy, pneumonectomy), General Surgery (pancreatic, bowel/liver resections), Urology (urinary diversions, cystectomies, RPLND), and medical overflow patients
- Staffing ratio of 1:3-4
- Day shift, 4x12 hours, 7:00 AM to 7:30 PM
- Weekend rotation required every other week, with possible consecutive weekends based on operational needs
- Floating required to different levels of care (Med-Surg, PCU, ICU) within the hospital or to a nearby affiliate hospital
- May be asked to provide charge nurse coverage with training and resources provided
- Cerner charting system required
Requirements
- Active IN or Compact RN license required in hand prior to start
- Current ACLS and BLS certification required
- Minimum 2 years of nursing experience required
- Proficiency in cardiac monitoring, chest tube management, fresh trach care, feeding tube management, post-op patient care, and epidural management required
- Experience managing non-titratable cardiac drips and IV insulin protocols required
- Experience with external BiPAP/CPAP, total laryngectomy care, and doppler flap checks required
- Nursing degree from a college or university accredited by ACEN or CCNE at time of graduation
- 2 supervisor references required
- SSN and DOB required for consideration
Additional Information
- Provide surgical progressive care nursing to a complex, high-acuity patient population
- Must be willing to precept and/or have students assigned to shadow, as this is a teaching hospital
- Floating is required for all travelers within the hospital or to a nearby affiliate hospital, with refusal potentially resulting in contract termination
- RTO of 5 days or less can be auto-approved; additional time off requires facility approval
- Must work 2 out of 3 major holidays
- Local candidates are not accepted for this position
- First-time travelers are welcome to apply
- Former IU Health perm or PRN employees must wait 12 months before applying as a traveler
- Current or past IU Health travelers with 12 months of accrued travel employment must take a consecutive eligibility reset break (3 months for out-of-state residents, 6 months for in-state residents)
