Description
American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Stepdown unit position requiring telemetry skills and a 1:3 patient ratio.
Details
- Step down (PCU/DOU/IMC) unit setting with cardiac telemetry patients
- Patient ratio of 1:3
- Night shift, 4x12 hours (7:00 PM-7:00 AM)
- Can offer 36 or 48 hours per week; block scheduling cannot be guaranteed
- Every other weekend and every other holiday rotation required, including 2 of the 3 winter holidays
- Floating required within scope of practice per facility policy
- Uses Epic EMR
Requirements
- Active VA state RN license or compact license (pending license accepted if in-hand by the Wednesday before start)
- Current BLS and ACLS certification
- Minimum 1 year of recent Stepdown/telemetry nursing experience
- Epic charting experience required
- BSN preferred
- Teaching hospital and Trauma Level I/II experience preferred
- Skilled in cardiac monitoring, dysrhythmia interpretation/management, and IV therapy
- Experience with central/arterial lines, blood product administration, and respiratory support (BiPAP/CPAP, chest tubes, tracheostomy care) preferred
- Experience with insulin drip titration, wound care, and rapid response/code team participation preferred
Additional Information
- Provide direct care to stepdown-level cardiac, renal, respiratory, and neurological patients requiring close monitoring
- Manage cardiac and vasoactive drips without titration, PCA, and procedural sedation monitoring
- Support rapid response and code team activations as needed
- Up to 16 non-billable orientation hours for specialty-specific modules completed during onboarding, tracked in Workday
- Maximum of 40 hours RTO allowed per 13-week contract, all of which must be disclosed at time of consideration
- Any planned vacation between sign date and start date must be disclosed to coordinate an appropriate start date
- Previous UVA permanent staff or traveler employment requires at least 1 year separation and leadership approval
- External travelers may not exceed 365 total assignment days and are not eligible to return once this threshold is reached
- First-time travelers may be considered for this position
