Description
American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Progressive Care Unit (PCU) night shift position requiring prior travel experience and neuro/ortho trauma background.
Details
- Surg/Neuro/Ortho PCU in a 25-bed hospital unit
- Patient population includes heavy neuro trauma, neurosurgery, craniectomy, and orthopedic cases
- RN to patient ratio of 1:5-6
- Night shift, 4x12-hour shifts, 48 hours/week (36 hours/week can be accommodated)
- Uses Epic EMR
- Administers Heparin, PCA, and 3% Sodium drips (no titration)
- Uses specialty equipment including telemetry, left equipment, chest tubes, and Airvo
- Weekend rotation every other or every third weekend depending on staffing/census
- No on-call requirements
- Required to float across Iowa Methodist MC, Iowa Lutheran, and Methodist West campuses
Requirements
- Active IA RN license or compact/multistate license required
- Current BLS and ACLS certification (AHA or ARC)
- NIHSS certification preferred, can be obtained during onboarding
- Minimum 24 months of Medical Surgical, IMCU, Stepdown, or Progressive Care experience in a hospital setting required
- Neurology/neurosurgery care experience required
- Orthopedic care experience required
- Trauma Level I experience highly preferred
- EKG/strip reading and telemetry experience required
- Experience with Heparin, PCA, and 3% Sodium drips required
- Epic EMR experience required
- De-escalation certification (CPI, MOAB, MAB, or SAMA) preferred
- Must have completed at least one prior travel assignment within the last 12 months
- Driver's license required for consideration
- Professional reference from a supervisor/charge nurse/manager within the past 24 months preferred
Additional Information
- Provide bedside nursing care to neuro trauma, neurosurgery, and orthopedic patients on a progressive care unit
- Candidates must reside at least 50 miles from the facility based on driver's license address
- Required to work 1-2 of 3 winter holidays (Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year's) unless the unit is closed
- Limited to one day off request during the periods of 11/26-11/30 and 12/23-1/2 regardless of holidays worked
- Navy blue scrubs required
- Past UnityPoint Health employees (FTE or PRN float pool) are restricted from travel assignments at any UPH market facility within 12 months of separation
- First-time travelers are not eligible for this position
