Description
American Traveler is hiring an experienced Med/Surg Tele RN for a 13-week acute care assignment requiring MI RN licensure and BLS certification.
Details
- Acute care Med/Surg Tele unit in a Trauma Level 4 facility with 24 inpatient beds and up to 10 observation surgeries per day
- Day shift, 7am-7pm, 12-hour shifts with rotating weekend coverage every other weekend (Fri/Sat/Sun)
- Nurse to patient ratios of 5:1 on day shift and 6:1 at night, with team nursing alongside LPNs at 2:7 ratios
- Common diagnoses include NHP, cellulitis, UTI, COPD, GU issues, pacemakers, sepsis, and nursing home placements
- Day surgical cases include ortho (hips/knees), cholecystectomies, appendectomies, and TURPs-CBI
- Small pediatric population (approximately 3 per year) typically not assigned to travelers without prior experience
- Charting completed in a non-listed computerized system, currently Cerner transitioning to EPIC
- Floating required to like units and patient populations
- On-call/standby opportunity may be required
- Charge nurse carries an assignment; travelers may be placed in relief charge role
- No IV team onsite, RNs must be comfortable performing their own IV starts
- RNs are not required to titrate drips
- Nurse aids are present on the unit
- Hospitalist coverage onsite until 6pm, telemedicine utilized overnight
- Respiratory Therapy available 24/7 with CPAP equipment
Requirements
- Active Michigan RN license required by start date
- BLS certification required (ACLS preferred)
- Minimum 1 year of Med/Surg or Med/Surg-Tele acute care experience required
- Experience or knowledge of TURPs-CBI preferred
- Experience in a Critical Access or Trauma Level 3/4 facility preferred
- Basic tele arrhythmia knowledge required
- Must be comfortable with limited onsite clinical resources
Additional Information
- Provide direct patient care for a diverse med/surg telemetry population including post-surgical and medically complex patients
- Participate in self-scheduling with facility attempting to accommodate longer shift blocks when possible
- Holiday coverage required for 2 of 3 major holidays
- Unit-specific orientation includes a full computer education day, a shadow shift, a supervised 12-hour shift, and independent work by day three
- Dress code requires solid, professional-colored scrubs with no specific color designation
- Clinicians must clock in and out at the facility
- Candidates living within 80 miles of the facility are considered local with adjusted pay terms
- Former Marshfield employees must have an end date at least 6 months prior to consideration
- First-time travelers may be considered depending on experience level
