Description
American Traveler is hiring an experienced Med/Surg RN for a 13-week night shift assignment requiring EPIC and travel experience plus NIHSS certification.
Details
- Acute care Med/Surg unit with 32 licensed beds, currently operating 20 due to staffing
- Nurse-to-patient ratio of no more than 5, with both RNs and LPNs on staff
- Unit treats a wide variety of diagnoses including CP, CHF, pneumonia, abdominal pain, pancreatitis, ortho, detox, post-op surgical, and pediatric patients
- Excludes laboring mothers and patients requiring titrating cardiac or insulin drips
- ICU monitor techs read telemetry strips and fax results to the unit for RN documentation
- RNs are not required to titrate drips
- RT equipment used includes CPAP, BiPAP (all hours), and high flow, with RT assistance available
- 3 nurse aides scheduled per shift with a House Supervisor making daily assignments
- 12-hour night shifts, 6:45 PM-7:15 AM, with every other weekend required (Friday, Saturday, Sunday nights)
- Holiday coverage rotates with regular staff
- Floating required, often to assist other units as a tasker or extra support
- No call or standby requirements
- Uses EPIC EMR system
Requirements
- Active RN license (Multistate/Compact or WV state license required)
- BLS (AHA) and NIHSS certification required
- ACLS and PALS recommended but not required
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
- Strong Med/Surg background required due to patient variety
- EPIC EMR experience required
- Prior travel nursing experience required
- Unexpired driver's license copy required for consideration
Additional Information
- Provide direct patient care across a broad range of medical-surgical diagnoses and post-operative patients
- Document telemetry readings received from ICU monitor techs
- Collaborate with Respiratory Therapy for CPAP, BiPAP, and high flow oxygen management
- Unit-specific orientation includes manager review, facility tour, introductions, and 3-5 days of unit training, plus Meditech, pharmacy, and lab training through the education department
- Scrubs of any color accepted except camo or orange
- Manager is open to block scheduling based on traveler preference
- Must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to qualify for travel rate, with no local candidates accepted
- Former WVU Medicine employees must complete a 2-year break before reapplying, and Garrett Regional does not allow former permanent staff to return as travelers
- Travelers may not work within WVU Medicine facilities for more than a cumulative year without a 2-year break
- Candidates interview directly with the unit manager as part of the hiring process
