Description
American Traveler is hiring a Med/Surg RN for a 13-week night shift assignment requiring 1 year of Med/Surg experience and EPIC proficiency.
Details
- Acute care Level 3 trauma Med/Surg unit with 38 beds
- Patient population includes older teens and adults with diagnoses such as pneumonia, UTI, dehydration, influenza, alcohol withdrawal, and respiratory virus
- Surgical patients include ortho (hips, knees, shoulders), general surgery (appendix, gallbladder, bowel), spinal surgery, and urology
- Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:5-6 days and nights, must be able to take 6 patients
- High turnover unit with frequent discharges and admissions
- RNs required to titrate drips including Heparin, Bumex, and Lasix
- Cardiac tech available 24/7, RNs not required to read own telemetry strips
- Nursing supervisor available 24/7, with charge nurses on day and night shifts who do not typically take patients
- Nurse aides on unit at 1:8-1:10 ratio, performing accuchecks and vital signs
- Respiratory therapy support 24/7 for trachs, CPAP, BiPAP, and high flow equipment
- 3x12 hour night shifts
- Weekend and holiday coverage required on an as-needed basis
- Low census call/standby requirement
- May float to IMCU for Med/Surg assignments
- No self-scheduling for travel RNs, though blocked scheduling can sometimes be accommodated
- Uses EPIC EMR
Requirements
- Active RN license (NE state license or compact) required
- BLS certification (AHA or ARC) required
- CPI certification required
- Minimum 1 year of Med/Surg experience required
- EPIC documentation experience required
- Must have experience with the specific shift being applied for (days vs nights)
- Must be able to manage a 1:6 patient ratio
Additional Information
- Responsibilities include bedside shift report, proactive patient rounding, and teamwork including assisting with call lights and supporting CNAs
- Navy blue scrubs required
- Unit-specific orientation consists of 1.5 shifts
- Must reside within a 45-mile radius of the facility
- First-time travelers are welcome to apply
- Cancellation policy allows for 3 shifts per 13-week assignment
